Feliz Día de las Madres to the moms who never let us forget where we come from... ✨️ Manhatitlan is so lucky to have moms be an essential part of who we are. They started off bringing their kids to class to then becoming dancers themselves. Into adulthood we often drift away from our parents, as we come to develop our own interests and passions. It's a beautiful thing when your mom loves to dance folklorico just as much as you do! And yes, sometimes they still do our hair 🎀 Inspired by the photoshoot done by @enriqueleyva_ with @yalitzaapariciomtz heart❤️ Voice over Text: I remember early mornings, a hot pink brush, the smell of gel, and my mom braiding my hair. Sitting in the chair felt like an eternity, I hated when she pulled too hard. I guess when you get older you miss those moments. Feliz día de las madres to the moms who never let us forget where we come from. 📹 @karlaa4444 . .. ... #mothersday #mexico #braids #puebla #diadelasmadres

Que Chula es Puebla y Que Chula es PueblaYork! Today is Cinco de Mayo, a reminder that even the hardest and seemingly impossible of battles can be won. 🪶 On April 26, 1862 General Lorencez wrote to France saying the French were "superior in race, organization, discipline, morality and in elevation of feeling..." words that echo what we face today as a community living in the USA. On May 5th, 1862, he was defeated in Puebla. Art, dance, and music must always play a role in how we represent and elevate our culture and our community, especially on days like today when our visibility is so often commercialized. . .. ... #cincodemayo #puebla #pueblayork #dancersofinstagram #baile

Nuevo Año... nuevos principios... New year, new beginnings Thank you to all the families and friendships that make dancing in our community possible ❤️ This year we took intergenerational to a whole new level with our youngest pro level dancer being 8 years old!!! Seeing her thrive and make friends has been a reminder of how this all started and why it’s been possible to carry on for now over 10 years. Amistad, amor, resilience and creating our own opportunities when people tell you no. If dancing is on your list of resolutions for this year please reach out, we’d love to meet you!!!! From our family to yours, Feliz año nuevo, nos vemos en 2026... 🕙 ✨️ 🍇 💖 . .. ... .... ..... ....... #mexicandance #nycdancers #2026recap #mexico #newyear

Parte III In a very special series we photographed the mothers of the group who have danced alongside their children (now all adults) for years. Reflecting on the significance of La Virgen de Guadalupe, what better way to place emphasis on the role una madre has in our community. . .. ... .... #virgendeguadalupe #baile #portraitphotography #nycphotography

Today, Mexicans across the world come together to celebrate the 12th of December in honor of la Virgen de Guadalupe. For many It's a complicated relationship between faith and culture, memories of community celebrations and family. It's a piece of our history that we grapple with through danzas, that we dance with respect, hoping to connect with our indigenous roots. It's been an honor to be invited this year to dance at the celebration hosted by the Brooklyn and Queens archdiocese at the Co-cathedral of St. Joseph in front of hundreds as prepare to run through the streets with la antorcha back to Queens. More portraits coming soon! . .. ... .... 📷 @karlaa4444

A small reflection as we begin celebrating Día de Muertos, taken from a converstaion titled Muerte between Orlando Mejía Rivera and Manuela S. Hernández during the Fiesta for books and culture in Medellín 2020. Beyond the beauty, colors and objects of the day, lies a profound experience of intertwining life and death, of building a relationship with what's hard to understand. As we prepare the ofrendas in the privacy of our homes we're also excited to be able to celebrate with all of you out in the open this Saturday Nov.01 at 46 Street under the Sunnyside Arch where we'll be welcoming our dearly departed as well as the living, our neighbors. Please feel free to bring photos or names to be placed on the ofrenda, los esperamos!
