'Ruination' - workshop from Sara Manente
Sara Manente created a workshop dedicated to exploring remnants, debris, and ruins. Participants engaged with each other’s gestures and traces, searching for movements of composting rather than fixed compositions.
Sara Manente is an artist and researcher working at the intersection of dance, writing, and the semiotics of rot. She lives in Brussels and works as a choreographer, dancer, researcher and mentor. In the last years, her interest focused on fermentation technology, chimerization and (auto) immunity.
In her work, there is often the concern of expanding the moment before naming or categorizing: a sort of suspension in a state of affects, paradoxes and possibilities. In this suspension something happens to the body. Her projects are developed throughout hybrid research and unfold in different formats: choreographic pieces, films, texts, interviews, curated events, workshops, telepathic experiences, and more.
This performance was part of our curation of
@ecopolis.be in
@kunstencentrumbuda in September '25 in which we invited different artists and researchers to inhabit our foam installation from their specific perspectives, entering in echos with the research that is behind "And now the beginning is somewhere else".
As each participant leaves traces behind, the space evolves—reshaped moment by moment into a living ecosystem. Together, we ask: how can performance practices inform ways of thinking? How do we move forward with what remains? What needs to change—now?
Thank you
@astridhaerens for the co-curation and the whole team of
@kunstencentrumbuda and
@ecopolis.be And thank you to all the persons who shared this adventure from close or far!
