As a kid I always thought Nightmare on Elm Street II Freddy’s Revenge was so fucking random. Later I heard it had gay undertones I might’ve missed. So I decided to check it out for myself now as an adult. And it’s not just homoerotic subtext - it’s a full on GAY movie - and a story about internalized homophobia that has far more resonance for our current moment than I ever imagined. And the story behind the making of the film and the era it was created in can teach us a lot about the situation we’re in now - where the queer community once again finds itself again the target of vicious hate. I’ve been working on this hour plus basically documentary video essay for over a year now and thrilled to share it with the world. Hiya friends and freaks and also especially queers - have you watched The Queerties yet?! It’s in my very bias opinion, the very best Queer Award show around and this year also has Trixie Mattel and Margaret Cho and Megan Stalter and Mae Martin and is generally just a gay ass time AND you can watch the whole show on @wowpresentsplus presents plus especially if you’re a drag race kinda girlie who already has it. On a personal note, my bro and I always LOVE getting to head up the video production part of this show - from the sizzle reels to the shoot to edit to final videos - and especially getting to work with the @johnhalbach and @mariatridas and the entire rad @queerty ‬ team to level the show up every year. This show is seriously so fun to work on, and always has an impeccable host from Bianca del Rio to Jinkx Monsoon to Bob the Drag Queen to now Trixie Mattel? I mean come on - that’s like the Mount Rushmore of Drag Queens. My favorite thing about working on this show is that this show actually DOES lift up queer voices. Which I know is like a corny ass thing to say. But it’s true. It brings queer people together from all different industries and all different phases of their careers to the same place to lift every one up. And people really do meet each other and find ways to collaborate. In fact, I started out as a Queerties nominee with my series Matt and Dan‬ - and through my work on that I began working on helping bringing The Queerties to life. It’s a reminder to me of the importance of celebrating each other. Also of being gay duh 🌈

Not since Baby Jane has she been so exquisitely cast. Also involved: a teen-age Rosanna Arquette, a feral, blood-stained Missy Gold, horses, “The Corn Play,” ritual blood sacrifice, asthma, corn, 47 different festivals, weird slow-motion Harvest Lord dancing, corn, terrible ADR, corn, pickling, therapy, corn, toxic matriarchy, male blindings, dirty sex in a mud river, gigantism, tongue removals, & corn.
