🌷Happy Mother’s Day!🌷 This mother’s day we are highlighting Rachael Oluokun of Mama O’s Bakery. Mama O’s offers a variety of custom made to order cakes in addition to Nigerian meat and vegetable pies! As an immigrant and single mom of 7 children, Rachael’s path has not been easy, but her love for baking has remained central to her identity as a mother. Her baking journey began from a desire to feed her family something special and homemade each day. Rachael shares that so much of being a mother is seeing the joy on her children’s faces when they eat her treats. Hearing her children’s laughter and comments on the taste of new treats she has made is such a big part of motherhood. She says that God blessed her with her children and a love for baking and cooking, filling her with joy and peace. Mama O’s is continuing to expand across Massachusetts at markets and events including an appearance at Harvard Art Museums At Night this March. Meet Rachael Oluokun, an incredible mother of 7 and founder of @mamaos_7 based in Ashland, MA! Rachael is originally from Lagos Nigeria and has been baking for over 30 years. Rachael’s buisness took off in 2020 when a friend encouraged her to start a bakery business after tasting one of her cheesecakes. Soon enough with her childrens’ help and encouragement, Mama O’s was born! Flash forward a few years and the bakery now offers an assortment of baked items including authentic Nigerian meat and vegetable pies. These meat pies took Rachael almost 10 years to perfect as she worked incredibly hard to create a recipe that most closely captured the beloved street food item of her teenage years in Nigeria. She fondly describes the days she would get her monthly paycheck and immediately go to the fast food junction to buy a meat pie and hopes to emanate that same feeling when customers take a bite of a Mama O’s pie. The Mama O’s pies were a resounding success at the Boston Local Food Festival last September and Mama O’s is continuing to expand across Massachusetts at markets and events including Harvard Art Museums At Night this March. For Rachael, being able to share the food she bakes with her loved ones and the community brings her the most joy and she looks forward to the years ahead.
