And I don't mean it in the cheesy way of "get out of your comfort zone", I mean it in the step into the vision of the life you really want to have, dare to say "no", dare to trust your voice and intuition, dare to leave anything that is keeping you small: people, relationships, jobs, environments... Daring to shift the script is scary AF, like any ending. But could we dance with the grief? Could we let it fill our hearts and just feel alive? Last night, I shed some skin. 🐍 🐍 🐍 It was so special to share this moment with my community, on a big stage at my favorite festival @bagel.burlesque !!! 💖 I’ve been working on this act for about a year. In the year of the snake. The only stable thing in life is transformation. We move through life–death cycles every day, and through them, we get closer to our core, our purpose, our dreams in their purest form. The snake is a complex symbol across cultures—a being moving between the underworld and the living one. A symbol of wisdom, transformation, and resurrection, its venom can be poison or medicine, depending on how it’s used. We all carry these contradictions within us. I needed to place my darkness outside of me—before it turns into poison. This act comes from the guts. The first track is a modern iteration of the Bulgarian folk song Vezhden Moma, performed by Oratnitza. The second is Berghain by Rosalía—an epic contemporary piece that, to me, captures these paradoxes of the human experience. I’ll share more about the costume in another post, but it was designed by me in collaboration with @sadie.steelheart / @odylic.design . Sadie brought it to life, and honestly I couldn’t have done this without her 💖 The serpentine has lived in the showgirl world for a long time, and I want to honor the artists who inspired me. Loie Fuller’s Serpentine Dance has stayed with me since I first saw it in university—long before I began burlesque. The early 20th-century aesthetic, with its expressive, almost naive theatricality, deeply shaped this piece. Ruth St. Denis and Carmen Tórtola Valencia were also key inspirations. It feels like the start of a new era. ↔️ 👉 for a surprise 🤪 The winter session at @arabesqueburlesque is in full swing but yesterday was the last class of the Burly Improv League! It was only 3 classes, which flew by like a pastie on a sweaty, summer evening 😳 I wanted to take the time to share the joy I experienced in the last 3 weeks with this wholesome group of humans! We played, we laughed, we cried... well, I did, a lil'... We had a helluva good time 😎 Thank you once again for trusting me, for your presence and commitment to getting to know ourselves and each other better, in more profound ways. Improvising is so scary and you took all.your courage and just friggin went for it!
