Hereโ€™s my second mason stain mug experiment! Did a satin white on this one and a matte turquoise on the other. I loooove the Satin white on this porcelain, practically no carbon trapping at all, and no iron speckles! Itโ€™s so pretty with the sunset colors! Do you like this one better or the matte turquoise? Iโ€™ve gotten wildly disparate opinions from folks so Iโ€™m glad I made both!

Starting to get some of my mason stain experiments back from the kiln. This is Coleman porcelain with essentially straight mason stain painted on, Iโ€™m trying to get a more intense color than you can really get with slip painting, and I want the color to really feel like part of the piece, painted on, then burnished in! I add a bit of water to the finished thrown piece, then sprinkle mason stain powder onto it, then burnish the piece before removing it from the wheel to integrate the color into the piece. It makes trimming difficult so I have to make sure that Iโ€™m at a finished piece that needs barely any trimming. Anyway, Iโ€™m really happy with how these are starting to come out!

Sometimes your shoulder completely collapses on you and you need to scoop it back up and heat gun it for a while ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Doing more fun stuff with mason stains. Different effects than you can get with slip, Iโ€™m having lots of fun playing with them.
