Thank you Joe Altwer for your beautiful new product, a very useful brush extender found its way to me via @mako_supply this morning, just in time to put the blossoms on my favorite cherry tree! #pleinairpainting #landscapepainting #artsupplies #spring #artgallery

Day 4 of @gmadonno_art and my road trip! Barrydale is not a town I know well (maybe I visited once years ago…) so as we crested the hill and began our drive down into the town, I was happily surprised how immediately I fell in love! I was up and out painting by 6.30am on our first (and only) morning. It wasn’t hard to find a spot to paint - there are so many beautiful vistas! I just had to decide fast as the light was changing and the shadows disappearing. This is always the challenge - finding a view that inspires means waiting for the sun to come up and create the dramatic shadows I love so much, but then it’s a race against time as the shadows shrink before my eyes! This morning I didn’t have much time so I exercised constraint (not a core trait) and painted small… on a wonderful @mako_supply linen canvas on ultra light board. What a joy to paint on this surface! Thank you @mako_supply ! I’m so glad I went small, as I could enjoy the experience of painting the perfect morning without the pressure of covering a large area (note to self!). Then it was off to the Saturday market where we met wonderful artists and artisans. I didn’t realise just how much of an artist town Barrydale is! I will be back! #barrydale #artistroadtrip #morningvista #landscapepainter #fromlife #joannaleemiller #southafricanlandscape #southafricanartist #southafricanlandscapepainting

Daisy Sims-Hilditch sent along a couple of images today; paintings from her first trip to the northeast on Mako panels. All packed up, and looking forward to seeing what she paints on the rest of her order.

Art is a tool to drain something from inside but also a form of food that sustain that part inside of me that needs to be drained. • This painting was in an Art Show recently and just came back to my hands. Now in exhibition at the shop too, come by and check it out! (About 20 paintings available in the shop) • #Art #oilpainting • Done on a @mako_supply panel

Early morning light at a fav spot in the Sierra.. a great way to start the day 🌄I’m loving these new panels from @mako_supply ! When my fav supplier stopped making my panel of choice, I panicked, but the c-12 linen Mako offers is even better. Check out their stuff- great customer service, too. New painting. “Ayer-Mañana” (yesterday-tomorrow) Oil on Panel. 9x12 inches. • Ayer mañana In this latest painting I am exploring the concepts of fear and hope. Thinking how fear seems to be mostly a present respond to something from the past or something that haven’t even happen yet. Seems like we expend most of our time in a constant mental dialogue reviving things that already happened or things that could happen rather than completely experience the current instant of now. In the other side, hope, seems to be also connected to the past and future but comes to present itself as a possible positive outcome to a fearful future consequence of current states. “Hope” can use past as a comparable situation to evaluate the possibilities of possible futures. But as past can’t be changed, hope only comes as a tool for the future. This painting is built with simple symbols that play with those ideas, Fear and Hope. Fear is represented with the skull, as symbol of dead but also of being into an irreversible state. The scary possibility of being trapped in a situation without scape or solution. To this the caterpillar represents Hope, the possibility of going through a self-evolving process to overcome the present state and become the one you are meant to be. The cherry blossom petal marks the “spring”, the moment to start our journey to that hopeful future. The book reads Ayer Mañana as title and symbolizes the information, is information where we base our fears and hopes. • Done on a @mako_supply panel, brand of my friend @leo_mancini_hresko • #oilpainting

Working through the weekend! A whirlwind three-day Materials Workshop with @leo_mancini_hresko and @mako_supply kept our 2nd & 3rd year painting students BUSY. In addition to discussing the ins and outs of painting supports, sizes, and grounds, our students learned how to mix and tube their own paint, stretch and size their own canvases, and prepare a variety of painting surfaces (from gessoed wood panels to mounted paper). Thank you, Leo!! 🎥 @bess.kelpin
