Last couple of days we have been working very hard on our compositions for @makingcontact_ , and are very excited to showcase what we’ve made. Doors open at 20:30, see you there!
Introducing Kris McDonald, a Dutch/English composer and sound designer, specialized in crafting immersive experiences and compositions for live performances, games, video art, and interactive installations. Based in Amsterdam, Kris is a member of @redshadescollective and a curator of an online radio platform @blueriderradio
Coming at you with a composition for @makingcontact_ inspired by minimalism, blending synthesis and samples into spatialized patterns and experimental complexity.
Misha Douglas MacLaren and Aengus Havinga will be presenting the result of an ongoing artistic research about sleep and the boundaries of human cognitive states. A new work exploring auditory hyperreality thereby questioning our sense of reality. Misha and Aengus invites you to listen closely, premiering their composition, specially crafted for the 4D system on the 18th of April 2024 in Amsterdam.
Aengus Havinga began developing his artistic language early in life. Growing up in various parts of Europe he was surrounded by a variety of parallel cultures. And thanks to his fathers obsession with electronic music and his mothers obsession with dance, Aengus is able to experience music within various forms. He learned to play some piano as a teenager visiting some classic, emo pop and indie rock, but quickly gravitated to teaching himself music production with a midi keyboard and laptop. In his lowkey home studio Aengus channels his wide range of interest and incorporates it in his personal sound in developing an own signature.
Misha Douglas MacLaren is an Audio-Visual artist, Music producer, Microtuner, DJ & Vinyl enthusiast. Grown up and based in Amsterdam, his work combines installation-, visual- and spatial art with music. But also organizing events, shows and distributing vinyl. Misha is deeply influenced by the interaction between the physical and psychological world. His goal is to express this within the intimacy & mystery of what electronic music and technology can bring. He travels towards a plane where every element is equally as important to embody the emotion. Working with a variety of artists and like minded people, where the goal is to connect all different disciplines into one complete artform.
Next up Roman Willems!
Roman Willems is an interdisciplinary artist based in Utrecht. Recently, he has been developing a personal modular sound environment that integrates self-made digital instruments.
In his live set, Roman combines these digital instruments with analog cassette loops and a synthesizer, creating sonic environments that bridge the connection between the analog and digital realms. In this event, roman will use his instrument in a spatial environment for the first time.
Also preforming 18th of April is IGNOTA.
IGNOTA (Bogotá, Colombia) is a techno DJ/Producer based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
His sound travels through the experimental realm. Imagine an intersection between various techno sub- genres and approaches to music-making and sound. It’s that place, where you must go in open-minded to surrender to the experience.
Every emotion and feeling is personal, and IGNOTA’s priority is to have you experience hidden feelings or emotions. To surrender to deep feelings and advance your consciousness (heal).

As an artist of the first Making Contact night, we would like to introduce Joris Takken
Ik ben een geluidskunstenaar uit Amsterdam. Ik ben een muziekkant die speelt in Amsterdamse bandjes. Daarnaast verdiep ik me in technologie en ruimtelijk geluid. Door middel van experimenteren en improviseren probeer ik een connectie te vinden tussen de luisteraar en mezelf.
Ik ben recentelijk bezig geweest met het maken van een extensie op mijn gitaar. Ik probeer nu mijn fysieke beweging te gebruiken, om de compositie te sturen of om de klank van mijn gitaar te veranderen.
Dit stuk bestaat uit twee delen, een deel waarin ik chaos om mij heen observeer en een deel waarbij ik chaos creëer.

I am a sound artist based in Amsterdam, deeply immersed in both the music scene and the exploration of technology and spatial sound. As a musician, I constantly seek to bridge the gap between the listener and myself through experimentation and improvisation.
Recently, I’ve been delving into creating an extension for my guitar, aiming to utilize my physical movements to steer compositions or alter the timbre of my instrument.
This piece is divided into two parts: one where I observe chaos around me and another where I actively create chaos.
Join us for an evening of spatial listening in 4DSOUND at the Contact Theatre, Amsterdam.
With this event, we inaugurate the newly installed 4DSOUND system at the Contact Broedplaats, where we will host residencies, workshops, listening sessions, and other spatial events!
On April 18th, five composers, graduate students of the University of Arts Utrecht: Music and Technology, will present unique compositions made specifically for this spatial sound environment.
