Overfishing, pollution, habitat loss, and climate change—almost entirely human-driven—continue to devastate penguin colonies along Southern Africa’s coastline. At the forefront of the fight is Dr. Lisa Nupen at SANCCOB, where staff and volunteers rescue, rehabilitate penguins. Raised in one of Johannesburg’s toughest neighbourhoods, Ayanda found a father in Luke Lamprecht and a home at Fight With Insight boxing gym at the old Children’s Memorial Hospital and home to The Teddy Bear Clinic. Now in her twenties, she stands as a respected boxing coach, a mentor, and a symbol of strength for the youth of Hillbrow. It’s more than a gym. It’s a sanctuary. Making Hope For Girls Change Ep. 8: Restore Hope! Mam Khanyisile is the founder of the Home of Hope for Girls. She opened her own flat to girls who needed care more than 24 years ago.
