KC Dancers! Shannon Stewart has joined the faculty at KU in contemporary and modern. She’s coming to KC to teach an open Countertechniuqe class THIS Saturday! WHAT: Open Countertechnique Class with Shannon Stewart WHERE: PLEXPOD WESTPORT (Entrance on Gillham Road) WHEN: Sat December 2, 10 - 11:45AM HOW MUCH - $10-20 sliding scale (venmo, cash) For those new to Countertechnique, here is a bit of what to expect: The class starts with a recurring set of exercises, allowing dancers to investigate the Countertechnique® principles in detail. The second half of the class consists of changing components, working towards luscious movement combinations. I'll open the studio 15 minutes early. Please DM if you have any questions!

Come celebrate with Making Moves! On December 8th, Making Moves celebrates the end of a successful year of programming with an evening of improvised music and dance. The Improv Jam will feature live music from Seth Andrew Davis & Evan Verploegh and live lighting design from Ian VanDusen. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and to bring water. This experience is appropriate for dancers and movers of all abilities and backgrounds and is open to all. The Improv Jam takes place in Charlotte Street Foundation’s Stern Theater (3333 Wyoming), begins at 6:30pm, and will last for approximately one hour.

🚨 WE ARE SO EXCITED FOR THIS🚨 Join Making Moves on Thursday, November 10th, as we present internationally renowned performer and creator Miguel Gutierrez. Miguel will share his work Unsustainable Solutions: Duet with my Dead Dad. In this 25 minute solo, Miguel interacts with video footage of his recently deceased father to propose an elegy to ghostliness, time travel and grief. This performance is free and takes place in Charlotte Street Foundation’s Stern Theater at 6:30pm. _________________ Miguel Gutierrez is a choreographer, composer, performer, singer, writer, educator, podcaster, visual artist, and arts advocate who has been based in Lenapehoking/Brooklyn for twenty five years. His work creates empathetic and irreverent spaces outside of traditional discourse. He believes in an approach to art making that is fierce, fragile, empathetic, political, and poetic. His work has been presented in more than 60 cities around the world, in venues and festivals such as Festival d’Automne, Centre National de Danse, Centre Pompidou, Montpellier Danse, Festival Universitario/Colombia, Bipod Festival/Beirut, ImPulsTanz, Fringe Arts, Walker Art Center, Wexner Center for the Arts, TBA/PICA, MCA Chicago, Live Arts Bard, and the Kathleen Hermesdorf Fresh Fest. New York at The Kitchen, New York Live Arts, BAM, Danspace Project, Abrons Art Center, the Chocolate Factory, American Realness Festival, and the 2014 Whitney Biennial. He has received support from Creative Capital, MAP, National Dance Project, National Performance Network, Dance/NYC and Jerome Foundation. He has received fellowships from New York Foundation for the Arts, the Tides Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, United States Artists, an award from Foundation for Contemporary Art, a 2016 Franky Award from Prelude Festival and four Bessies. He is a 2016 Doris Duke Artist.
