One of my favorite ways to introduce circuits in second grade is by letting students test random classroom objects with Makey Makey! From tinfoil to Play Doh to plastic spoons… students make predictions, test their ideas, and immediately see the results in action. Hands-on STEM activities like this make abstract science concepts feel real, memorable, and FUN.
And yes… things can get very competitive when the predictions start 😂

The pupils in our Copley Primary School STEM club made these cool joysticks using the new @makeymakey Invention Launchpad kit.
I was impressed by their independence and how well they were able to follow the guides and support each other. I think they enjoyed building these even more than they enjoyed playing with them!
Of course, we took it a step further. We added the Player 2 Backpack to Makey Makey and connected a second joystick, allowing the children to enjoy the games together.

The Invention Launchpads are designed to offer a starting point, build confidence quickly and inspire further creativity. Once children understand how Makey Makey works, the creative possibilities are endless!
Our home ed pupils were able to build these keytars independently by following the guides and supporting each other. They did so well!

We celebrated International Dance Day with DIY dance mats and @makeymakey !
STEM club children at Worthinghead Primary School applied their knowledge of circuits and conductivity to create these working dance mats.
We also added the Player 2 Backpacks to instantly double the fun!
With Makey Makey, everyday materials like cardboard, foil, bottle caps, and scrap wire can become interactive inventions.
These Trash to Tech projects encourage students to think creatively about both engineering and environmental responsibility, showing how innovation often begins with the materials we already have.
