A few days ago, here in Barbados, I heard about someone who had a monkey. Curious and hopeful, we arranged to meet him.
I imagined a happy animal, surrounded by love — but instead I met a small monkey, chained for over a year. Afraid of humans. Sitting there, calling out to his free friends in the trees above.
When we left, the anxiety stayed with us. Neither Christoffer or I could stop seeing his eyes. After a sleepless night, one thought stayed with us: what if we could give him his freedom?
We were given the chance to buy his freedom and let him go.
Since that moment, we’ve been gently reminded of what really matters.
It reminds me how small material things truly are — and how priceless it is to choose compassion, freedom, and love when you have the chance.
