Sanitation ISN’T an option. Sanitation practices are not cheap. Sanitation takes hours of unpaid labor, frequent maintenance and replenishment of products. Cheaper MUA’s = older products, cutting corners, not completely practicing the hygienic processes. 👉🏻👉🏻
Red Flags to look out for 🚩🚩
Using dirty or cleaning brushes between clients - your artist should have individual sets for each clients
Reusing sponges or velour puffs - sponges and puffs hold onto bacteria, no matter how many times you wash them!
Not using disposable applicators, spatulas or mixing palettes - if your artist is using products directly onto your face, on the back of their hand or straight from the tube…get out of that chair!
Not disinfecting products between clients - makeup and equipment should always be disinfected between clients, no disinfecting = germs growing 🦠
Being a professional MUA is very expensive, products break, expire yearly, get ruined due to unseen circumstances, or are one use only (applicators, lashes, sponges, puffs etc), those costs add up quickly. Cheaper artists cannot afford to maintain a large kit and replenish yearly = more chances of their kit having broken or expired products….cheap glam may look great but that bacteria on your face won’t!
Remember if they’re applying something or their makeup cases appear dirty - it is. Artistry takes time, expenses, years of experience and continuing education, go with the artist that will put your mind at ease and not at a Statcare.
