I may not have won a scroll saw, but that does not mean I lost.
I have been watching this challenge for a couple years now and love watching everyone’s different ideas come to life. While I have only done a handful of pieces on my scroll saw, watching different processes and new ideas come together just shows me how much room there is to grow and evolve. This challenge always makes my creative brain go a little haywire in the best way!
But the best part about this challenge is finding new creators and watching them make something that they have never tried before. It’s safe to say I am following many many more creators because of this challenge that @makerschallengecentral and @bearwoods_supplycompany so kindly put on every year!
@pineknotsandprettythings is our #ScrollSawChallenge2026 winner!!! 🥳Andrea captured the theme “Talk Wordy to Me” to perfection. She created Fawkes, the Phoenix from Harry Potter.🐦🔥 Intricately scrolled pieces painted, shaped, and smoothed to perfection, this project was a true CHALLENGE piece. And her Phoenix flies. Talk about WOW factor! ⚡
In the words of @thehouseoftimber " I have no words for this dang flying bird @pineknotsandprettythings made!" 🐦🔥
It was meant to be a challenge, and Andrea embraced it. Andrea talks about the challenge of creating this beautiful Phoenix and shows videos of her flying. With the spirit of a true Maker and creative, we can not wait to see what she does with her new Pegas scrollsaw! 🔎 A peek through the looking glass at the final parts of the process. This includes my favorite part: painting!
Painting the characters is when the magic really started to come together. I took some creative liberties with some of the color. The illustrations in the original story are in black and white. I wasn't looking to copy the looks from any movies, but did grab inspiration from a few of them, plus artist's colorized renditions of the original works.
Most notably, you may notice our Cheshire cat does bear a striking resemblance to the 1951 film. Who doesn't love the purple striped cat? Alice's blue dress is a staple, but the details on everyone's outfits and colors were otherwise just part of the magic.
This entire project truly was a "Trust the Process" moment every step of the way. I leaned so much and I'm thankful for the competition for pushing me out of my comfort zone!

All jokes aside, I need my husband to come home from his trip so we can watch this movie 🍿🎥
But while I wait, y'all enjoy this immaculately (LOL) edited video of my project for the #scrollsawchallenge2026

I didn't have time to take pictures until today, so here they are!! Better late than never! My "Talk Wordy to Me" theme ended up being a "Talk Wordy to my Girls"

Lighting makes all the difference.
Here are some still shots of my #ssc2026final piece
The 5th & 6th images are in low lighting (only a side lamp) and wow does it really make the metallic spots pop
