We had such an amazing time on Wednesday night with our friends at @greenpointtrashclub ! We cleaned McGuinness Boulevard from Driggs Avenue all the way up to the Pulaski Bridge and then had some well deserved drinks at @scrappleland . We got to see our old neighbors on the Boulevard @nypeepskitchen who had to move out of their spot at McGuinness & Engert but landed on their feet cooking their delicious chicken at Scrappleland!! The trash club is such an awesome reflection of the civic care in our neighborhood. Greenpoint won’t hesitate to do the hard work and certainly won’t hesitate to have fun! Together we’re making McGuinness safe AND clean! A public space we can all be proud of, something that brings us together after dividing us for so long.

After years of tremendous work and advocacy we are FINALLY getting the full road diet plan on McGuinness Boulevard! Any day now @nyc_dot crews will be out working from Calyer Street to the Pulaski Bridge to extend the safety benefits of our community plan to everyone in the neighborhood. The DOT presented at Community Board 1 last month and received plenty of feedback from us as to how to make sure the plan is a success. We’ve spent the last few weeks organizing our thoughts as well as meeting with partners and sent a letter to the city detailing those priorities. We were joined on this letter by *all* of our local elected officials @emilyassembly @lincolnforcouncil @gonzalez4ny @rep_velazquez and @bkbpreynoso . Our asks for the northern half of the Boulevard are detailed in the graphics here. We’ll be sharing our asks for the southern half soon!

A terrifying incident last night at the corner of Morgan & Nassau where a driver rammed a school bus several times and damaged several other vehicles before speeding off. This is the damage that a car can do and the danger that it can present to our neighbors. These are the streets our families walk every single day to get to school, to go to work, to go to the park. We need designs for our streets and accountability for drivers that make behavior like this impossible. We need policies put into practice that will keep our neighbors safe. We need it now. Neighbors continue to sound the alarm about dangerous driving throughout Eastern Greenpoint, cut thru drivers, irresponsible speeding, outright reckless behavior like this. Meanwhile we have been waiting for a plan from @nyc_dot to make the streets around the park and school safer for over two years. It cannot come soon enough.

TONIGHT @nyc_dot is BACK at Community Board 1 to present their plan for the complete road on McGuinness Boulevard. We are extending the full community plan north from Calyer Street to the Pulaski Bridge, shortening crossing distances, widening bike and emergency service lanes, restoring parking while adding loading zones and daylighting, and designing for our Greenpoint neighbors rather than speeding cut thru traffic. It’s been a long road to get here! If you’d like to come out and support and speak in favor of the plan the meeting is at 211 Ainslie Street at 6pm. Signup for public comment is *only* from 5:45pm to 6:15pm. McGuinness is first on the agenda! We’ll see you tonight!

Whether it’s Day 3 or Day 100 we are so grateful to *finally* have a Mayor who cares about street safety for all of our neighbors. We can’t wait to finally extend the road diet north from Calyer Street to the Pulaski Bridge. Thank you @nycmayor for keeping this city’s promise to Greenpoint.

Our daffodils are blooming on McGuinness Boulevard! Huge thank you to our friends at Hunter College and at @nbkparks who helped us cleanup, do tree care, and plant bulbs at Holy Name Square this past Fall. We now have a beautiful flowering plaza! It’s our hope that as @nyc_dot finally brings more investment in safety on McGuinness Boulevard by completing the road diet later this Spring that we can see more effort and intention toward McGuinness not just as a road but as a public space that can be beautiful and green.

All of our streets should be safe for all of our people. And though our campaign focuses primarily on McGuinness Boulevard we’re lucky to work alongside so many amazing advocates throughout Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Their efforts (and ours) imagine a climate resilient North Brooklyn where everyone can get around easily and safely, where traffic deaths and injuries don’t happen, and with a lot more beautiful public space for us all. Which is why we’re excited to be joining the 3rd Annual North Brooklyn Safe Streets Showcase at @thegreenpointpalace this Sunday March 22nd at 3pm. We’ll be joining @nbkopenstreets @bankersanchor @bedfordslip @ps110pta Safe Streets Committee @nbk_ta @friendsofcooperpark_ @nbkparks and many more friends and allies. Want to learn more about what’s going on? Want to get involved? This is the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors and chat about this critical work.

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our Community Information Session at the Greenpoint Library last night! We had a great time talking about the history of this campaign, what we expect in the coming year, and a few of our larger priorities as we move into capital planning. A special shoutout to @bklyn_geec for hosting, we are so fortunate to have a local library that supports advocacy and community.

2026 will be the year Greenpoint gets a *full* road diet on McGuinness Boulevard! Because of the hard work and steadfast commitment of our neighborhood @nycmayor and @nyc_dot will begin work on the full community plan as soon as the weather is warm enough. What do we expect them to install? And once it’s done what will come next? We hope you’ll join us at the Greenpoint Library on Thursday 2/12 at 6pm to hear more. Whether you’ve been involved since Day 1 or just moved to the neighborhood we would love to see you. We’ll be talking about the history of this community effort, what we expect to be installed in Spring, our expectations for a Capital Plan, and how you can get involved this year to care for and steward our trees and public spaces on the Boulevard. See you there!

The little bike lane plow that could! Thank you to @nycsanitation for getting out there to clear the McGuinness bike lanes. Just like the big plows are rolled out to clear the streets the city has purchased these small plows to care for bike lanes throughout the five boros. There’s still plenty of digging out to do here in Greenpoint but a big thank you to everyone who is helping out to keep our neighbors safe and our city moving in this storm!

🥺 Why should New Yorkers care about road safety? Assembly Member Emily Gallagher @emilyassembly tells us why she cares. This is about the initiative to implement a road diet to McGuinness Boulevard in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
