RESIDENT | Welcome, Ali Eslami! Our new Mondriaan Fonds resident kicked of his residency this week. The Dutch-Iranian artist has worked primarily in the digital domain in recent years. At Make, Ali will explore how digitally generated objects can function as sculptural elements within installations in the physical world. ⁠ ⁠ ///⁠ ⁠ RESIDENT | Welkom, Ali Eslami! Onze nieuwe Mondriaan Fonds-resident startte zijn werkperiode deze week. De Nederlands-Iraanse kunstenaar werkte de afgelopen jaren voornamelijk in het digitale domein. The holiday season is right around the corner! So, here’s a brief announcement. From Monday, 22 December, we will be closed for the holidays and we’ll resume operations on Monday, 5 January. We’re looking forward to welcoming you in 2026 with hopefully a variety of thrilling new experiments and initiatives. See you then!⁠ ⁠ /// ⁠ ⁠ De feestdagen zijn in aantocht. Dus alvast goed om te weten: we zijn gesloten vanaf maandag 22 december. Onze deuren openen we weer op maandag 5 januari. REMEMBER | RETAKE - DDW2025 | Walk-in Closet is the graphic art project by Esra Westerburgen. She created the works during a 60-day residency at Make, where she arrived through an open call. REMEMBER | RETAKE - DDW2025 | 'Glass is not nothing' is a project by architect Laura van Santen, in collaboration with 10 architects, designers and artists. A remarkable project that looks back a 100 years in order to shape the future of glass in architecture. “Glass is not nothing” is on view during @dutchdesignweek Dutch Design Week as part of Make’s exhibition REMEMBER | RETAKE. REMEMBER | RETAKE – DDW2025 | Poetry of Stains is @onno_poiesz art project for NS and on show during DDW at Make. Read all about the character of the unpredictable in his project in our link in our bio. ⁠ ⁠ From the everyday marks you might encounter on a train – a coffee stain, for instance – he created bronze door handles for double-decker trains. But the bronze turned out to be rather theft-prone, so NS had them removed. Onno was later commissioned to recast the handles into a new artwork. ⁠ ⁠ This new piece – on view from 2026 in Amsterdam’s IJ Passage – will be shown by Onno during @dutchdesignweek at Make’s exhibition REMEMBER | RETAKE. See you then! ⁠ ⁠ ///⁠ ⁠ REMEMBER | RETAKE – DDW2025 | Poetry of Stains, oftewel de poëzie van vlekken. Zo heet het kunstproject van Onno Poiesz voor NS. Lees alles over het karakter van het onverwachte in dit project, in de link in onze bio.⁠ ⁠ Van alledaagse vuiligheid die je tegenkomt in een trein – een koffievlek bijvoorbeeld – maakte hij bronzen deurknoppen voor in dubbeldekkertreinen. Maar het brons bleek nogal diefstalgevoelig en dus verwijderde NS ze weer. Onno kreeg vervolgens de opdracht de deurknoppen in een nieuw kunstwerk te gieten. ⁠ ⁠ Dit nieuwe werk – vanaf 2026 te zien in de Amsterdamse IJ-passage – toont Onno tijdens DDW op de Make-expositie REMEMBER | RETAKE. For nearly a month now I have had the absolute pleasure of being a resident at @makeeindhoven . It's hard to describe the expanse of freedom and exploration there as I make a deep dive into material quirks. I am still busy looking into ideas of dissolution, questions of figure and ground, symbols, ... Stay tuned for more soon and if you pass by Eindhoven come by for a visit!
