CODOGNATO x @paveniteo - GRIM DE LA GRIM PENDANT
Grim de la Grim is a pendant necklace designed by A$AP Rocky for Pavē Niteō (Rocky’s fine jewelry line) as part of his collaboration with historic Venetian jeweler Codognato. The necklace was made specifically for the Met Gala in 18-karat yellow gold and enamel and is set with diamonds. Codognato x Pavē Niteō is a collaboration that is a conversation between two cultures - that of Venice, Byzantium, Baroque and Renaissance Italy and the Hip-Hop scene in New York that Rocky grew up surrounded by. Darkness and light, good and evil, temptation and violence are themes that resonate throughout history. Codognato is defined by its own past and whilst staying very close to that heritage within Venice, Rocky gave us the opportunity to engage with the contemporary and make this piece that was inspired by classic Hip-Hop pendants. We wanted to push ideas of scale, of taste and of humor whilst remaining focused on our craft. Exquisite detailing, historic enamel techniques, classic motifs such as the Baroque angel and devil and the tiny rat hidden within the hair curlers create a timeless work. Grim, the character invented by A$AP Rocky with an acid green face mask, is a persona in our age of Vanity represented as a sculptural Vanitas.

CODOGNATO x PAVĒ NITEŌ - GRIM RING
A ring inspired by the green face of the witch from The Wizard of Oz, with pink hair curlers and a megaphone. Technically challenging, the piece was initially considered as two rings before becoming one. Made entirely in enamel and 18k yellow gold, it has a plaster and an X on.

Although our shop in Venice remains unchanged and makes only archive pieces we are delighted to have been working with A$AP Rocky on our collaboration ‘Codognato x Pavē Niteō’.
Attilio Codognato spent a lot of time in New York and was always engaged with the new - be it art, music or literature and he collected Pop art and Minimalism as it was made. He believed in artists and their great importance in elevating every culture. Our work with A$AP Rocky is a conversation between our heritage in Venice/ Byzantium/ the Baroque and Renaissance in Italy and that of Hip-Hop culture in New York. Music, energy, mistakes, pushing boundaries, exploring mediums and ultimately being courageous in creativity whilst entertaining and fun.
In this spirit ‘Mr Mayers’ is the Sixth ring in the Codognato x Pavē Niteō collaboration and plays with an historic Codognato setting, the Samorodoc, where the metal remains in its original state like a crude rough rock. We found an archive ring with serpents and skulls emerging from a rugged cliff of silver and the aim with Mr Mayers was to explore all the effects of the varying metals and show off the exceptional workmanship of our artisans.
Mr Mayers is the suave trench-coated, windblown persona of Rocky, seen on his ‘Don’t be Dumb’ album artwork designed by Tim Burton. We played with textures- minuscule plaits are braided in silver, the Saint Laurent foulard winds around the setting patterned and detailed with sapphires, the bone of the skull is the smoothest polished gold, the sunglasses gleam in blackest onyx.
Shaped by skilled hands and suspended in time, Codognato jewels emerge as visions carved into matter.
Each creation is rooted in a legacy of craftsmanship, where symbolism, memory, and mystery intertwine in a delicate balance between technique and poetry.
Not mere adornments, but objects imbued with meaning—where craftsmanship becomes language, and every detail reveals the unseen.
This universe can now be experienced within The Only True Protest Is Beauty at the @fondazionedriesvannoten in Venice—a dialogue between art, artisanal heritage, and beauty as a contemporary act of expression.
