🍅 MEDesque by @georginahayden is a Mediterranean inspired cookbook filled with comforting and delicious recipes. It features fresh ingredients and fun, vibrant dishes. Café manager and cook, Nina, has a few personal favourites - the corn, chorizo and avocado salad and the radish, cucumber and olive salad. Both would be perfect summer BBQ sides. (If the weather ever allows!) The Amalfi lemon, almond and elderflower cake has just been made in the kitchen and smells divine 🍋

We are all very excited here at Mainstreet about our upcoming event with Douglas Stuart on Monday. Stuart will be in conversation with @kirsty_wark_ about his beautiful, powerful and very moving new novel 'John of John'. Not only has it been getting glowing reviews, but Oprah Winfrey announced 'John of John' as her next Book Club pick! @oprah This event is now sold out! We look forward to seeing all who have booked at St Boswells Village Hall on Monday evening, starting at 6:30pm. If you missed out, please call in at the shop and ask to be put on the waiting list.

What a great joy to have @michaelmorpugo with us at Mainstreet last night to celebrate publication of his heartfelt retelling of Black Beauty (stunningly illustrated by @tomdefrestonart ). The evening was part pin-drop quiet as Michael read (and sang) to us, and part raucous fun as he chatted to the packed room of fans. We feel so lucky to have hosted Michael so many times over the years - from our very first event in 2008 to arriving on message in tartan trews and tweed jacket last night (a shock to miss the usual red/pink jacket)...we much look forward to the next visit! Thank you as ever to Michael and Clare for coming to see us, and for all you do - no better advocates for the importance of reading for pleasure and understanding the countryside @farmsforcitychildren (Clare and Michael's extraordinary not for profit mission to give urban youth the experience of life on a farm - celebrating 50 years in 2026!) Big thanks to the lovely @philperry6774 for making this event happen. We have signed copies of Black Beauty in the shop if you're quick! @harpercollinsch

Happy publication day to @jackiemorrisartist and @robgmacfarlane for the stunning 'The Book of Birds'. This is a compendium of forty-nine bird species that are all declining or endangered in Britain. The words are educational and lyrical, and the paintings are beautiful - what a magnificent pairing! Our lovely @dianelumley2 did an amazing job of the lettering for our window display and thank you to @penguinhamishhamilton for their support and materials. @dougallelspeth @hamishh1931

What a joy to spend three days in fair Verona with an amazing bunch of booksellers from all over the world, plus of course many lovely old (and new) UK Indie friends. From a visit to the oldest library in the world (see pic of bomb damaged books inc. shrapnel) to pinching the best ideas (looking at you @night_owl_bookshop @paperbird_books ) and especially good to meet Kimberly from @josephbethcincy , visiting Europe for the first time 😁. Big thanks to @risebookselling for putting together such a great schedule and picking glorious Verona for us to gather 😁👍 @booksellersassociation - great to see the gang!

Huge thanks to the lovely @ceostler for a fascinating conversation about The Renoir Girls at Mainstreet last night. From a deep appreciation of the delicate, yet ground-breaking portrait, to the extraordinary story of the girls themselves. Their lives taking the reader from Belle Epoque France, through the darkness of the Dreyfus Affair, to the horror of two world wars. Catherine Ostler brilliantly knits together the many strands of storytelling, from the literary to the social and political, drawing on original sources, including letters between Alice (the younger, ‘pink ribbon’ sister) and Asquith. We have a few signed copies left if you’re quick…😁 @simonschusteruk
