I have been a practitioner of Mordançage for 35 years and always fascinated with the veils of emulsion and illusion…that moment when destruction ceases to be an end point and becomes a method of seeing. This image began as a simple exposed sheet of photographic paper. Is it roots dissolving into spirit trying to become a landscape through silver, chemistry, and ruin or a tree standing in a forest at dusk? In Mordançage you have so many possibilities. Horizontally, a river flowing. Join me for the workshop in the new darkroom @mainemedia this August to see your creativity and turn destruction into revelation. Links and a video about the process on my website or dm me if you have questions. #mordançage #mainemedia #alternativephotography #photography #darkroom

Led by book artist Anneli Skaar and Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker Amanda Pisetzner “The Autobiographical Artist Book” is a hybrid workshop at Maine Media Workshops + College (on campus Aug 24–28, 2026, with prior online sessions with interviews) that combines documentary storytelling and book arts to help participants create a personal, handmade book. There is something about the word florilegium — a gathering of flowers — that feels like an invitation as much as a description. Come. Look closely. Make something that lasts, something that endures.
This June, I’m leading a week-long workshop with @mainemediabookarts built around exactly that theme. We’ll spend a day at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens photographing the summer blooms, take some local walks, and return to the studio to do what I love most: edit, sequence, print, and bind our images into a handmade book - your own photographic florilegium.
It’s a new workshop, and one that sits close to the heart of my own work. I’ve been making books and photographing plants and gardens for years. This week is a chance for us to do that together.
Follow the link in my bio to sign up for class, I hope to see you there!
If you’d like to sign up for my mailing list to learn about future workshops, comment “workshops” and I’ll send you a sign up link.
