We will be donating three books to our local hospital. These books will be left there for any parent to read during their stay in the bereavement suite, they will feature three babies from our community Maila, Eli and Nakoa. Hopefully allowing any parent who may be having a hard time with bonding to realise that itโ€™s a possibility to do it there and then and see how parents continue their childrenโ€™s legacy. #grief #babyloss #stillbirth #reels #explorepage

Black baby loss awareness week Our episode with @mailaspresent will be going live in a few weeks, but we recorded last night. Our conversation felt so important and I loved getting to know Helena and Maila more. We spoke about how to stay connected with your baby after loss and how to humanise baby bereavement. If you have experienced the loss of your baby/ babies, we see you, there is space for you and youโ€™re not alone ๐Ÿ’œ #blackbabylossawarenessweek #babyloss

Maila & I firmly stand by the work to end the increased numbers of Black babies which as it stands is 3 times more likely. Racism plays a big role in this, because apparently it is easier to ignore and dismiss a Black mother. #blackbabyloss #blackbabylossawareness #stillbirth #loss #motherhood

Iโ€™ll never forget that feeling, suddenly everything is loud and quiet all at once. You can hear everything but also nothing. The ringing in your eyes, the feeling of being submerged under water. #babyloss #grief #lossmom #bereavement

Today I attended an MNVP Maternal Mental Health Listening Event at Walthamstow Library. It created a valuable space to listen, share experiences, and contribute to shaping better maternity and neonatal care across Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, and Newham. It was encouraging to see open, candid, and constructive discussions between service users, healthcare professionals, and hospital leadership. Thank you to those who bravely shared their own lived experiences. A key focus of the discussion and something that really resonated with me as a midwife was how current antenatal appointment structures and the significant reduction in time and resources is preventing midwives from being able to explore maternal mental health in detail both during pregnancy and in the postnatal period. The constraints of limited appointment times, midwives having the knowledge and skills to recognise deteriorating mental health and having the confidence to use their own professional curiosity, were highlighted as critical factors that can significantly impact the support women receive. Itโ€™s really hard to sit and listen to women who feel their care fell below the standard they needed and the effect this had on their experience, their mental health and how they have bonded with their baby. I sat there, feeling deflated, almost embarrassed hearing these women speak so openly. I had to remind myself that midwives hate working this way too- we know itโ€™s not enough, we want to be able to do more and we want women to feel seen and heard and have the best experience possible. The reality, we are constrained by the system, a system that isnโ€™t fit for purpose and that is a hard pill to swallow! I just hope that opportunities like this encourage decision makers to really listen to the impact this restrictive care is having on womenโ€™s mental health and are able to make the necessary changes. Events like today are essential in ensuring that services evolve in a way that is responsive, compassionate, and truly centres the needs of women and their families. Thank you @mailaspresent for inviting me to attend and lovely to see @daphneandfriendscic as always ๐Ÿ’ž
