Hard to believe it’s taken three years of stops and starts, but here it is: “You’re Not Making This Easy.”
I made this with two of my closest friends— brothers Stamati and Vug Arakas. One is an oldie from my LA days, the other a New York find.
Witnessing their chaotic, loving dynamic made me feel like Richard Attenborough documenting rare creatures in the wild. As a guy who grew up with four sisters in relative harmony, watching these two scream their guts out one second and kiss and make up the next fascinated me.
What started as a doc became a feature script (dubbed Good Vug Hunting), then a short, and finally a labor of love made for a couple of bucks by a dedicated skeleton crew.
Equally indebted to the films of the French New Wave as it is to the New York No Wave. It's jazzy, gritty, and very Downtown. So give it a gander. Maybe you'll laugh? You certainly won't cry. There's also some nudity. Just not the kind you think, perverts!
Link in bio. Stay tuned for a screening featuring live music by the Arakas Brothers themselves!
