Truth be told, just how I got started with Magic Typewriter is hard to explain.
I had started writing poetry upon my exit from one way of being in the world to another. I left what held my whole reality and identity behind because it was making my soul sick. Poetry became my pathway into my voice.
Around 2014 I met a poet who was going by the name Typewriter Oracle. I was deeply inspired by her one line typewriter poetry that she would tuck into library books and on community boards. She asked me if I wanted to be a Typewriter Oracle too, I said emphatically yes, then never heard from her again.
But a friend heard my desire and found me a typewriter. It was a few years before I was brave enough to take that setup public. In 2017, I set up what would become Magic Typewriter for the first time at the First Fridays art walk in Kansas City, MO. What followed was a life changing project.
