We are proud to have been a part of this year's @globalfreemedia_ipi (IPI)'s 4th Media Innovation Festival in Vienna, represented by Nyasha Mukapiko who joined a panel discussion on how impact strategies can transform independent media. Spaces like these continue to remind us of the power of collaboration, creativity and people-driven storytelling in shaping the future of media. We appreciate the organizers for bringing together such a vibrant global community of media innovators. #mifest26 #magambanetwork

Last week, we joined changemakers, activists, policy thinkers and energy justice advocates at the Energy Development and Just Transition in Africa Convening and the conversations were timeous and necessary. From reparative justice and green industrialization to the real socioeconomic opportunities of a just energy transition, one thing was clear: Africa cannot continue to power the world while its own people remain underpowered. The future of energy on the continent must be people-centered, equitable and rooted in justice not extraction dressed up as transition. It was powerful to share ideas, challenge narratives and imagine an Africa operating at its fullest energy potential, where communities are not left behind in the race toward green development. Huge appreciation to everyone who brought honesty, urgency and vision into the room. The work continues✊🏾 #climatejustice

Nafasi is here! 🌍✊ We are proud to announce the launch of Nafasi, a bold three-year initiative to defend Africa's digital civic space, led by @magamba_network in partnership with @defenddefenders and @rfldorg , and supported by SIDA. Nafasi, meaning ‘space’ in Swahili, directly confronts the growing crisis of digital repression on the African continent: from state-deployed spyware and deliberate internet shutdowns to Big Tech’s AI-generated disinformation, from the systemic online violence used to silence women activists to Gen Z’s growing use of digital tools to fight back. Nafasi couldn't be more timely. We exist in a moment where shrinking civic space is spilling over to the digital front and where authoritarian African states and Big Tech are outpacing civic society with their growing digital arsenal. It’s time for Africa’s civic activists, social movements and digital rights organizations to be able to stand up, speak truth to power and defend digital democracy. Nafasi will act as a unified shield for African civil society. Together we will build a more just, free, safe and participatory digital future for all! We look forward to working together with SIDA and our amazing Africa-wide partners to roll out this dynamic and innovative programme to reclaim the digital civic space on our beloved continent! #Nafasi #DigitalRights #CivicSpace #Africa #DigitalDemocracy #SafeSisters #MagambaNetwork #DefendDefenders #RFLD #HumanRights

In collaboration with @magamba_network (Zimbabwe) and Digital Democracy Initiative, last week Climate Hub Tanzania hosted a powerful 2-day Fake News Fighters Bootcamp, bringing together youth leaders, content creators, climate advocates, and journalists ready to challenge climate disinformation 🌍🔥 What stood out wasn’t just the sessions rather, it was the energy in the room. Curious minds asking hard questions. Honest reflections. Bold conversations about truth, power, and the stories shaping our communities. With inspiring facilitators like Nathan Mpangala (cartoonist, illustrator & grassroots comics expert), Mactilda Mbenywe (climate & science journalist from Kenya), alongside the incredible Climate Hub Tanzania team, participants explored: ✨ How Disinformation spreads in Africa ✨ Understanding Disinformation, Misinformation and Malinformation ✨ The role of media, storytelling & PR in shaping narratives ✨ Practical tools for fact-checking and countering false information ✨ Creative approaches from humor to local language storytelling to reclaim the narrative and so many more! This wasn’t a passive space. People challenged ideas, shared lived experiences, and co-created solutions. That’s what real learning looks like. We’re proud to be creating spaces like this in Tanzania, where young people don’t just consume information, but actively question, verify, and lead. 🇹🇿 #FakeNewsFighters #ClimateTruth #Ukweli #YouthVoices #FactChecking CHTCommunity

Something powerful is coming to RightsCon 2026… Through Moto Labs, we are bringing our Rural Digital Kiosk to Zambia, a practical step toward addressing digital exclusion across our communities. This kiosk is designed in response to challenges many of us are familiar with: rising data costs, limited connectivity, internet shutdowns, and shrinking civic space. It’s an attempt to explore what locally grounded, African-led digital infrastructure can look like. At RightsCon, the kiosk will feature across two major spaces: the official session “Community-led civic tech for digital accountability in Southern Africa” and our satellite side event “Reclaiming the Digital Commons for Africa: Platform Accountability, Digital Authoritarianism & the Future of Independent African Infrastructure.” If you are attending RightsCon, we would love for you to join the conversation. If you are following online, you can also register and be part of the sessions. 📢Event Details: Session: Community-led civic tech for digital accountability in Southern Africa Date: May 7, 2026 Time: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM Venue: Banquet 2, RightsCon 2026, Lusaka, Zambia Event: Reclaiming the Digital Commons for Africa: Platform Accountability, Digital Authoritarianism & the Future of Independent African Infrastructure Date: Tuesday, May 5, 2026 Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM GMT+2 Venue: Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Lusaka, Zambia
