Over the past week… Hon. Ruthy Masake, Deputy Minister has called for increased investment, technical cooperation, and commercial partnerships with EU stakeholders, particularly in agro-processing infrastructure, cold-chain logistics, digital agriculture systems, and market access initiatives. In a speech delivered on her behalf by Ms. Kachana Kamwi, Deputy Executive Director in the Ministry, Masake highlighting Namibia’s commitment to transforming its agricultural sector into a competitive, value-added export industry. Masake noted that Namibia’s key priorities included: • Expansion of irrigated agriculture along strategic river corridors and inland dams; • Strengthening sanitary and phytosanitary compliance systems; • Advancement of the Namibia Livestock Identification and Traceability System (NamLITS); • Development of agro-processing infrastructure across all 14 regions; • Positioning Namibia as a regional agro-processing hub under the SADC–EU Economic Partnership Agreement and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The remarks were made at the Namibia–EU Business Forum Agribusiness Session held in Windhoek on 13 May 2026,

Minister, Hon. Inge Zaamwani, held a familiarization meeting this morning with the Minister of Finance, Ericah Shafudah, during which Hon. Shafudah and her delegation were briefed on the ministry’s revenue generation and employment creation initiatives. The ministry highlighted revenue streams under vote 37 generated through resettlement farms, the administration of the Deeds Acts, land survey activities, and the Directorate of Research. Under Vote 38, the ministry outlined the economic contribution of marine resources through quota fees, fishing licence fees, permit fees, observer levies, and corporate taxes. Aquaculture and inland fisheries were also identified as emerging sectors contributing to national revenue generation and job creation.

The Global Water Partnership Organisation (GWPO) will officially commence operations in Namibia on 23 May 2026 following the signing of the Headquarters Agreement earlier this year to host the organization’s headquarters in Windhoek. The GWPO CEO, Alex Simalabwi, arrived in Windhoek this week with a delegation to finalize the transfer of the headquarters from Sweden to Namibia. The move positions Namibia as a key hub for global water governance, climate resilience, and sustainable water management.

Chamber of Mines of Namibia Meets Hon. Minister Inge Zaamwani Hon. Minister Inge Zaamwani engaged the Chamber of Mines of Namibia on several matters affecting the mining sector and sustainable resource management. Discussions focused on access to Government-owned resettlement farms, noting that the Land Owners Act applies only to private farm owners and not to resettled farmers. The engagement further addressed Traditional Authorities and conservancy consent requirements, as well as the practical implications relating to land access and agreements. The meeting also covered the Water Resources Management Act and Regulations, as well as the implementation of the Blue Economy Policy and Marine Spatial Plan. The engagement reflects continued collaboration between Government and the mining industry in advancing investment, sustainable development, and economic growth in Namibia.

Swakara Industry Briefs Hon. Minister Inge Zaamwani Hon. Minister Inge Zaamwani held discussions with the Swakara industry, which presented a comprehensive brief on the sector’s strategic importance to Namibia’s economy and rural livelihoods. Swakara is a unique sheep breed developed in Namibia, internationally recognized for producing high-quality pelts and wool used in the global fashion and textile industry. The discussions highlighted Swakara’s contribution to poverty eradication in arid areas, agricultural diversification, and the attainment of Vision 2030 and NDP6 goals. The industry also shared its strong international performance, including a 52% price increase achieved at the Saga Furs Auction in Helsinki, Finland. Additionally, ongoing support initiatives such as the Samplemen Ram Project, Swakara Support Scheme, and Mill Wool Project were highlighted as part of efforts to strengthen and sustain the industry.
