spent the week with @mujeresdelbarrorojo wowowow it was the most beautiful experience of my entire life🏺🦋💓
we hiked el picacho mountain to excavate red clay to soak, sift, mix, & dry, ready to use for handbuilding. tools included corn cob, metal shard, stone, & part of a basketball. obvio!! 🌽🏀🪨
after carving & polishing, all pieces went straight into the wood burning fire. every step of this process absolutely blew me away. also had incredible home cooked meals (gracias amalia) & learned pottery techniques from an absolute legend (gracias macrina). this was an experience of a lifetime & sry but i will never stop talking about it!!!

i started ceramics when i was in a deep state of grief. this art form was incredibly healing for me as i navigated a lot of anxiety, sadness, & emotional heaviness. playing with mud gave me happiness and light at a time that felt particularly dark
when the eaton fire burned altadena, the familiarity of grief soon followed. although (luckily) my childhood home is ok, so many places where community & memories were built quickly turned to ash - one particularly close to my heart was my uncle mike & aunt sue’s home.
in this time of loss, i find myself returning to the studio. play & experimentation led me to eventually creating this earthy, raw, unpolished set. the first of many things to help @michaelaltadena & @sdantuono rebuild. i love you both! and i hope these mud masterpieces bring joy to every meal!!!
