𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 transforms photovoltaic behaviour into an immersive surround audiovisual experience—three compositions, three video works, from Winter to Summer.
𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: 21/12, 11:00–20:00 (plus additional dates).
Location:
MADLab (Media Arts and Design Research Lab), Potamitis Building (3rd floor)
Kitiou Kyprianou 8, 3036, Limassol, CY
𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 is a research-led immersive audiovisual installation that sonifies photovoltaic (PV) system behaviour using multi-layer mapping strategies. Hourly data from sunrise to sunset is compressed into musical time, presenting winter–summer contrast through three sound compositions and three accompanying video works.
Photosonics is presented as a continuous sequence of three works—𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐈: 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬, 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐈𝐈: 𝐒𝐮𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐈𝐈𝐈: 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬—each built from the same PV dataset but realised through different musical and technical approaches: from transparent sinewave-based mapping, to wavetable synthesis informed by electromagnetic recordings of photovoltaic inverters, to soundscape-based sonification embedded in field recordings from the Troodos mountains, where the data is rendered as moving spectral emphasis (narrow frequency-band emphasis) across layered, identical soundscapes.
Three video artists were invited to create accompanying works—sometimes data-driven, sometimes more interpretive—extending the translation 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 → 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 → image.

The series of workshops Ecologies of Sound: Soundscape Composition as an Artistic Practice invites artists from any medium and practice to explore acoustic ecology, soundscape theory, and soundscape composition.
The workshops will feature:
- Seminars on acoustic ecology and soundscape theory.
- Activities of sound meditation, deep listening, and soundwalking.
- Listening and analysis sessions of soundscape compositions.
- Classes on soundscape composition techniques and practices, accompanied by hands-on tutorials.
Creative Task: The primary task for participating artists will be to create a project that integrates their artistic practice with soundscape composition. Indicative examples include combining soundscapes with dance performances, fine art, multimedia or photography installations, video art, theatrical monologues, or music compositions.
No prior sound experience needed
Free participation | 12 spots only
𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞: 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓
𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: A total of 15 hours, divided into five 3-hour workshops, plus one day for the participants’ projects presentation.
