So I did some traveling for the holidays and spent some time with my cousin and her husband. They were wonderful (as always) and fed us homemade barbecue. Unfortunately, Kris spent too much time over the smoker and came down with a migraine. So I did these little watercolor sketches (I should mention at this point that they are big “Grinch” fans). One is a study of the grinch with a headache (“all that noise, noise, NOISE!”) for the migraine, and the other one of the grinch feeling better, and getting back to carving the roast beast. Just a small watercolor sketch of some poppies for Veterans Day. Veterans Day should not be confused with Memorial Day. On Memorial Day, we honor those who gave their lives for their country. Veterans Day honors those who were left behind to deal with that fact. The holiday falls on November 11th every year, and was established to coincide with the end of World War 1, which everyone vainly hoped would be the last Great War. So if you were wondering why I was late with my Halloween art this year, here is a partial explanation: I was also late getting this done for my brothers’ birthday. Since Robert Redford had recently passed, and he liked the publicity stills for “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, I decided to do a freehand portrait study of one of the photos. And I further decided it should be 1 1/2 foot by 2 feet in size. Call me crazy. Anyway, it finally arrived at his house today so I can share it here.
