The Geometries of This Apartment's Bauhaus Origins Combine With Natural Materials and Vacation Colours of the Mediterranean
When Tel Aviv-based designers Ma/Deux Studio and Barcelona-based Szymon Keller were jointly engaged to work on a 100 square-metre residential apartment on the Mediterranean coast, the home was in its dilapidated, original state and in desperate need of attention.

We are wrapping up the year with a project we are truly proud of - one that was also featured on the prestigious stage of AD.
And we are already deep into the next one, aiming for nothing less.
Welcome 2026 ✨
We chose to end this project where it began - by the staircase. A quiet echo of the opening frame, now holding a different kind of life.
This project was designed as an investment, not for a specific family - which, for us, was both unfamiliar and intriguing.
We’re used to shaping spaces around the people who will inhabit them,
so this time, we had to imagine the life within.
When it came time to photograph the space,
it felt essential to bring that imagined life into reality.
Together with the talented photographer @ronicnaani , we created something between an interior shoot and a fashion story - a moment where the space becomes a stage.

את תמונת הסיום של הפרויקט בחרנו למקם בגרם המדרגות המיוחד של הבית - מעין הדהוד שקט לתמונת הפתיחה, אבל עם נוכחות אחרת.
זהו פרויקט שנבנה כהשקעה ולא עבור משפחה ספציפית, וכמי שרגילות לתכנן בתים עבור האנשים שיגורו בהם - היה כאן אתגר אחר.
נדרשנו לדמיין את החיים שיתרחשו בתוך החלל.
כשבאנו לצלם, היה לנו חשוב להפיח בו רוח חיים,
ולשם כך, יחד עם רוני הצלמת, יצרנו מעין הפקת אופנה בתוך הבית -רגע שבו החלל הופך לבמה.

A sliding door, concealed within the cabinetry,
designed to disappear completely into the room.
Until it moves - and reveals itself.

שנועדה להיעלם לגמרי בתוך החלל.
כשהיא נפתחת, המרפסת רחבת הידיים נגלית לפנינו והופכת לחלק בלתי נפרד מחדר השינה.

In The Levantine House, we carved a room within a room, using colour as architecture,and introducing a moment of contrast.
A bathroom that feels almost unexpected:
bold, precise, unmistakably contemporary.
A gentle wink within an authentic shell.
Sometimes, contrast is what makes a space feel whole.

יצרנו חדר בתוך חדר, רגע של צבע וניגוד בתוך מעטפת אותנטית. חדר רחצה עכשווי, מדויק,עם קריצה עדינה
לפעמים דווקא הניגוד הוא מה שמחבר את הכל.

ספרייה כאלמנט אדריכלי.
יש רגעים בבית שהם לא לגמרי לבד, אבל גם לא ממש יחד. בדיוק בשביל הרגעים האלו תוכננה הספרייה הזו - חציצה רכה בין אזור המגורים לבין פינת ישיבה אינטימית.
מקום לקריאה, לזמן מסך, או פשוט להיות רגע עם עצמך, בשקט - מבלי להתנתק מהמרחב המשותף.
המדפים הפתוחים מאפשרים למבט, לאור ולחיים שבבית להמשיך לזרום דרכם, ומעבר להם מתגלה האיזון שבין יחד לבין לבד.

A bookshelf as an architectural element.
There are moments at home that are not quite alone, yet not fully together. This bookshelf was designed exactly for those moments - a soft partition between the living area and a more intimate seating nook. A place to read, scroll, or simply be still for a moment, without disconnecting from the shared space.
The open shelves allow light, views, and the life of the home to flow through them,and beyond them, a balance emerges - between togetherness and solitude.

התוספת המאוחרת של קומת הגג נבנתה כשונה במהותה מן הסביבה הטבעית של המבנה ומהבינוי הסובב אותו.
מתוך הפער הזה נולדה הזכות לפסל את פתחי המבנה מחדש.
זו תגובה מודעת למתח שבין ישן לחדש, כמהלך שמתרגם את האלמנטים האדריכליים הקיימים לפתחים מדויקים.

The later rooftop addition was conceived in clear dissonance from the building’s original architectural context and the surrounding urban fabric.
This discontinuity generated the opportunity to redefine the façade openings - a deliberate architectural response to the tension between existing and new.

במבנה שקיבלנו לידינו, התקרה התנשאה לגובה של למעלה מארבעה מטרים. כשאנחנו מקבלות לידיים חומר גלם כזה, הידיים כבר מתחילות “לנגן” על האוטוקאד - וכך נולדה קומת הגלריה.
בתמונות: הספרייה הדו־צדדית שמפרידה בין האזור האינטימי שנוצר מתחת לגלריה לבין החלל הרחב והפתוח ומבטים מקומת הגלריה.

With a ceiling soaring over four meters high, the gallery level almost designed itself.
In the photos: the double-sided bookcase that separates the intimate space below from the open plan, and views from above.
