This might be my favorite so far. Imagine you’re walking through a little town you’re in for the first time in your life, you’re looking at everything with fresh eyes, you can’t understand the language everyone around you is speaking, it’s Summer, there is a breeze, it smells like food in the best way, and you’re hoping to find out what that food is and how it tastes, and you will! It’s gonna be a dish so good that you will think and talk about it for the rest of your life. You’re not rushing, though, you’re walking pretty slowly because you keep looking to your left and to your right and up and everywhere, colors and textures and architectural details you’re not familiar with that peak your interest, and in every little street you walk in to there are a couple windows open, curtains moving in the breeze, and you can kind of peek in.

Such a fun little ongoing project, these are some of my favorites. I’ve been using test strips from 2025, and some mishap strips found in booths.

Split flipper is so wholesome. Give up your self sufficiency for a few minutes and dance with somebody else.
I like the last photo because these two actually work in film.

My mom, driving the green VW Golf 3 to my grandparents on a winding road surrounded by tall grass and trees and pastel painted houses. Small town Austria. “Psycho Killer” by the Talking Heads on a tape, windows rolled down, my sister and I on the back seat, buckled in with the H shaped seatbelts that were recalled for safety issues a few years later, my legs too short to reach the floor of the car. I did not yet understand or speak English. My mom, singing loudly, and perfectly pronouncing the French part of the song, her black fro towering over the head support of her seat. The first memory I have to a song.

One year ago today I filled out my first booth sheet!
A few weeks ago I was on a train, holding on to a roll of photopaper very tightly, and a guy across from me asked me what I was guarding with my life there, and I explained that it was a roll of paper for a photobooth, 1000 continuous strips, and we chatted about it for a bit, and then he said “so you’re carrying 1000 future memories of strangers” 🥹
Last photo: the first photobooth I remember seeing, at @mqwien in Vienna.

I went on the Manhattan Bridge one night in 2017 on a whim with Jason, and with the plan to do long exposure shots of the FDR. It didn’t work out, the vibration from the ever running Q sabotaged the plan, but Jason and I had a good time talking and walking. We passed a skatepark on our way home, and we returned to it just a few weeks later for a night of skating after he found me an abandoned skateboard on a stoop. The day after we pretended we were 15 again and invincible on these four wheeled reminders of our youth, we ran into each other in the kitchen, both walking reeeeeal slow and laughing about how old we felt and how much everything hurt.
He’d be 53 today. Happy birthday, my friend. Wherever you are now, they’re fucking lucky to have you.
