By thoughtfully incorporating natural daylighting, we’re enhancing the practicality of the space while maximizing natural light and minimizing glare — perfect for creativity to flourish.

At our Chelvey workshop, a new timber frame structure is emerging — built to house a fully electric-powered sawmill. ⚡🌳 This impressive piece of machinery will enable us to process sustainably sourced local timber into structural beams, joinery, cladding, floorboards, and more. It’s huge step forward in our mission to design and build sustainably, using local materials and low-carbon methods right here in Bristol.
Our aim is simple: to transform more local trees into beautiful, purposeful structures that connect people with place. 💚

Making a 3d model is a great way to get a sense of proportion and space ,architectural drawings are great for the nitty gritty of getting projects built but can often be hard to relate to. We really enjoy this part of the design process, a welcome break from tapping on a keyboard !

We have a solar powered workshop ! Doesn't make for a great photo but we thought that it's definitely worth shouting about. I checked the reading on a hot sunny day last week and we generated a whopping 20 Kwh from 8am - 4pm. That's enough power to run one of our big 1.5 hp machine's non stop all day ! And have 8kwh of renewably generated energy spare to feed back into the grid.

We made these clay plaster samples a couple of weeks back for our stand @windmill_hill_market
Besides being a beautiful interior wall finish they also have so many great qualities!
Clay plasters buffer temperature and relative humidity resulting in much better indoor air quality.
Visual comfort - these plasters do not reflect light and cause glare, helping to create peaceful and calm environments.
Sounds absorption - clay plaster has a softer acoustic quality than traditional gypsum
And ! Clay is a non - toxic natural material more sustainable than traditional gypsum and paint.

Recently finished joinery for our workshop landlord in Chelvey. These windows are Douglas fir with a hardwood sill. The durability of Oak makes it a perfect material for building elements that are exposed to the weather. More lovely work from our joiner extraordinaire @brendanpykecarpentry
