Every time a couple invites me into their lives to capture their Notre Dame wedding, I absolutely jump at the chance. Not only because the university is absolutely breathtaking, but because the Basilica and Notre Dame itself is steeped in my maternal family lore.

I exist because my parents first laid eyes on each other in the God Quad, moments after my dad became bewitched by my mother's starring role in a university opera.
.
My grandparents are buried in the campus cemetery, and I remember my grandfather's funeral in the Basilica like it was yesterday.
.
My grandfather taught at St. Mary's College for decades, and my grandmother did the flowers in the Basilica's parish where we would attend Easter mass every year, my little sister and I begrudgingly donning our matching Easter bonnets.

My grandmother even wrote a memoir entitled Tackling Notre Dame about raising her family on Angela Boulevard in the shadow of the Golden Dome.

When my mom was a little kid, she used to ride her tricycle around the stadium on game days and strangers would give her money and she would buy hotdogs until she was too stuffed to even ride her trike back home. 🤣 #1950sparenting

But I think my favorite image is the one of my despondent teenage mother throwing the ring her high school boyfriend had given her in the lake across from the Grotto. 🤣🤣Every time I'm there, I gaze out at the water and wonder how deeply buried in silt that long forgotten memento is now.

About a decade later, she herself was a bride in the basilica and got married at the Lady Chapel behind the grand altar.

It's a deeply special place for so many. And it doesn't hurt that it is just jaw droppingly gorgeous! So grateful to Haleigh and Daniel for trusting my team and I to document their incredible day!
