This time last year I apprehensively shared a post talking about going on medication for anxiety and depression. A year has gone by and I feel it’s just as important to share. I’m still on the medication, same dose, one pill a day around the same time, 7pm for me. Medication was something I was against for a long time, but I reached a point where it was highly recommended for me to start. I repeat, they were not the cure. However, after a small uphill battle with some side effects, they calmed my brain enough to start talking to people about it, which caused a ripple effect for the better. Anyhow, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. After sharing last year I was taken back about the love and kindness I received, and countless people reached out saying they were going through a similar journey. I still take one day at a time and probably always will, but now I really can say for certain that things do get better.
If you’re reading this and need someone to talk to, I’m always here. I don’t have all the answers but I’ve found something in listening to other’s experiences.
It’s a poignant time to share as it’s the month of Movember. Together, let’s challenge the stigma and to take on mental health, suicide, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Almost two in five of men living in the UK die prematurely. These deaths are mostly preventable, with more men dying prematurely in some areas than others. We all have partners, fathers, brothers, sons, and mates that we love. When these men are unwell and unsupported, we all feel it. In our families, our workplaces, and across society at large. It’s why we must advocate for more public action to drive change.
Throughout November, I will be doing my best to once again squeeze out a moustache out of my still slightly teenage upper lip and maybe even share a pic or four along the way. There’s a slide here showing my attempt from last year!
