The scriptures say "Whom The Son sets free is free indeed" so don't mind me just being extra in my dining room. Just a black man with a camera, a space to create in, a chill sabbath day and way too much creativity and caffeine in his body.

It's Earth day so here are some greens, some blues, some brown. There is a lot of chaos happening in the world right now but, despite that, I choose to take note of the pockets of beauty, the light, the little things, the promise of peace that can't be taken away... All photos taken on 120 film (Kodak Ektar) on a camera I will most likely never get rid of, the Mamiya RB67.

Ten years with this one. From Maryland to Florida. From highschool to careers. From friendship to beyond. Two houses, and an apartment. From being a kid to having one. There could be no ocean without the rain. There could be no me as I know it without the woman who helped me grow. I love you, Raine. Let's see how God, and the next ten years, transforms us and also solidifies who we are.

I have this habit of not posting photos until months later. Let's not ruin that streak now then 😅. These photos are from the island both of my parents were raised on. The birthplace of Juneteenth. The place where my Grandma participated in sit-ins when segregation was still an arguable concept. Galveston, TX. The place i remember I first smelling saltwater and where one of my cousin's was the first black man I knew who surfed (or even could). These photos were from around Thanksgiving 2025 and it was slightly surreal not being the kid just following his family around from one relatives house to another, but actually being able to just walk and explore with my own child behind me. Galveston has some new buildings. It seemed a bit more gentrified than I remembered it, but the "new" can't eradicate the history. There's still a lot of warmth in the air. The food is still good. Family is still there. It's not my home but it also kind of...is.

Nineteen shots from a pit stop in New Orleans while on a roadtrip to Texas a few weeks ago. I hadn't been back here since I was a kid, and I had been less than interested in the city ever since finding out my ancestors were once slaves not too far from there. On top of that it also seemed a lot more gentrified than I remembered. Despite the negative points, i shocked myself with how fascinated i was while walking the streets. The buildings looked like their bricks were made out of history, and the chicory coffee still hit. The amount of photos I took in only a few hours was egregious 😆 I found out recently that I will be back in New Orleans sooner than I could have planned. If you've been there, are from there, or simply have a lot of love for the city, give me recs on places i should visit when i return. . Also- this has nothing to do with New Orleans- but have y'all heard the song "Autumn Leaves" by Frank Kole? I am not usually into instrument-only music but i haven't been able to get it out of my head. That's the track i was looking for to pair with this post. So imagine that as you swipe through the images AND LIKE THE POST. Thank you 🤝 . . #neworleansstreets #takeyourcameraeverywhere #sonyalpha

I dropped these over on Threads but decided to update Instagram but also sprinkle each frame with some thoughts. If you can't tell, I have been thinking about the concept of Light a lot, lately. The natural phenomenon, thanks to the sun, or electrical current, but also the spiritual aspect. Being a photographer, light cannot be ignored. Being a human, light cannot be ignored... Yet sometimes, it feels more convenient to shy away from what feels too revealing; to not be truly "perceived"; to be just one of many. But shadow cannot heal. In the dark, eyes are easily deceived. #yashicamat124g #kodakportra800 #selfieonfilm #lighttherapy

I am a forever city boy but my baby girl was born in the land of ponds, gators, orange groves, and outdoor activities. So when a homie invites me over to his land, I couldn't not bring the fam and let my Floridian baby meet some Floridian horses and cows (and chickens and goats. Not shown in this set though). She'll grow up to like nature more than I do and she'll be naturally regal just as Nature was formed... She'll be taught to smell much better though 😅. Thanks for having us out @jacobphoto_ . Photos taken on medium format film. (Both of the boys had the Mamiya's out that day 💪🏾). . #mamiyarb67 + #portra800 . #shootitwithfilm #shootfilmunder1000 #bestofyourroll

Slow days and analog nights. What sometimes feels too mundane is also sometimes the answer to past prayers you sent up when the world felt a bit too unstable. . I am learning to say Thank You regularly. . . . #selfportraitseries #gratefulforthelittlethings #super_ordinarylife #sonyalpha #warmtones

Last year's hot summer in America's oldest city. The place where my daughter's name was first said. The first beach she went to. A plethora of pink and green. The car wasn't there but the color fit the set 😅. These photos remind me that sometimes you need prayer, sometimes you need therapy, sometimes you need to work hard, sometimes you need a better nights sleep, or better time management, etc. Other times you just need a little vacation with no plans other than the change of geographic location. Sometimes you need to catch a sunrise and remember there is so much beauty that was here before the stress and worldly strife we currently know... And that beauty, built by something eternal, will continue long after the memory of today's turmoil. . . Keep living. Keep hoping. Plan a vacation (for our sanity and yours). . All photos taken on 120 film, on the Yashica MAT 124G and cropped to 4x5. . #selfieonfilm #staugustineflorida #selfportraitonfilm #yashicamat124g #documentyourdays

Thirty-three years on this planet. Last year taught me i literally cannot predict this next one [I should have learned that lesson in 2020]. So I'll contemplate but I won't worry. The world is going through so much right now [when was it not?] but I refuse to try to carry all of that weight. I won't ignore it, I will speak up for justice/war against injustice, when necessary. I will pray. I will listen... but I will also laugh. I will also smile authentically. I will know joy this year. . . Btw, hit me up for some simple digitals if you want some! . Digital images taken after midnight / the early morning of 06.14.2025. . #happybirthday #blackjoy #selfportraitseries #orlandophotographer

Dear Self, it isn't your job to try and manipulate the Light into illuminating your future. You only ever experience Today. Be grateful for the light that guides today's steps. Be grateful for the steps you were able to take successfully. Be grateful for the stones you were able to see ahead of time and avoid. Be grateful for the times you fell but had the light to reorient you once you got back up. Be grateful you don't have to bear the weight of knowing everything. Walk towards greater but be content in the journey. Stay on the road that's lit. . .
