May is Jewish American Heritage Month, established in 2006 by President George W. Bush as a bipartisan effort. In 2018, the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History became the official convener of JAHM, responsible for staffing and organizing the month across the nation each year.
JAHM is supported by nearly 200 cultural, civic, educational, and government entities around the country who set out to celebrate the inspiring
history of Jewish people in America from 1654 to the present; educate public
audiences about Jewish culture; and spark crucial conversations about the
American Jewish present and future.

It was the love of Judaism instilled in her by family, coupled with two trips to Israel before attending college, which drove Dr. Janet Pearl’s desire to compete in the Maccabiah, which she will do this summer as a member of Maccabi USA’s Masters Tennis team. Now, her motivation to attend the Games is even greater due to the crises that have plagued the Jewish people over the past few years, including the rise of global antisemitism and anti-Zionism.

For years, Maccabi USA U-19 outfielder Asher Belfer has dedicated countless weekends to volunteering at various food pantries across Southeast Florida. He recently engineered software to create Volunhelp, an app that automatically assigns volunteers to deliver food to clients.
When Belfer touches down at Ben Gurion Airport in late June, it will be his first time in Israel, and he’s pumped.

If it was Zionism that initially brought Beth and Gary together, it was a shared passion for golf that cemented the relationship.

For 17-year-old Judah Viders, the significance of the Maccabiah does not come from a single story or moment, but rather from something he has watched grow over time.
Maccabi Media's Elliot Potosky sits down with the Viders to discuss Zachary's return (to play for the Masters Men’s 45+ Soccer Team) and Judah's first go at U17 Boys’ Soccer Team.

Seventeen-year-old artistic gymnast Sophie Knapp will be embarking on a trip to Israel for her second Maccabiah. This summer, however, she’s returning from a shoulder injury sustained four years ago that left her unable to compete on the bars apparatus.
Returning to competition isn’t the only thing that Knapp is eagerly awaiting in Israel. She is especially looking forward to meeting people from different countries, just as she did during her first Maccabiah in 2022.

Maccabi Media’s Josh Markowitz sat down with Shane Carr to uncover the heartfelt journey of bringing the close-knit spirit of camp to the global stage as Senior Director of Programs for Maccabi USA and the lead professional for the 2026 Maccabiah.
Long before joining Maccabi USA, Shane Carr’s sense of purpose was deeply shaped by his Jewish summer camp experience, his nearly decade-long tenure with the Union for Reform Judaism, and a transformative semester at Tel Aviv University. Drawing from this foundation, he decided to move from URJ to Maccabi USA, where these influences became central to his role.
