Macabre Americana is a New York City-based folk-fusion collective that explores the dark undercurrents of the American dream — past and present. Blending haunting melodies with poetic storytelling, our music delves into themes of identity, struggle, justice, and the often forgotten voices that shaped this country. Drawing inspiration from blues, folk, jazz, and soul, we craft songs that are both emotionally raw and theatrically rich. From tales of coal town fires to protest anthems and spectral ballads, each track offers a window into America’s beautiful and brutal complexity. 📅 Friday, September 26th – 7 PM 📍 Court Square Theater. 44-02 23rd St, Long Island City, NY 11101 🎭 Beyond One Medium: Stories of Migration and Belonging A dynamic evening of live performances across puppetry, music, theater, poetry, and more, exploring migration, displacement, and the search for belonging. 🌍✨ 🎟️ Tickets available now! Repost from our sister @laurchestra : • On the eve of Lunar New Year, I strolled down Main St. in Flushing, Queens, the subway stop I took the train home to growing up. For the first time in years I felt so carefree, smiling at young kids holding sparklers on the sidewalk and teenagers running and giggling from setting off illegal fireworks. I felt such an intense pride for where I came from and relief that I could be out in the open feeling safe in my community on a holiday that brings me so much hope and rekindles the fondest memories of my childhood and family history. The next day headlines broke that an AAPI community in California was devastated by a deadly mass shooting & texts started flooding in from my friends bolstering support in the wake of yet another hate crime where lives of Asian Americans were taken. “A theft of joy” is how a friend/inspiring AAPI small business owner (@coastandvalleywine ) described it to me. And that is exactly how I feel in this moment. As a proud Chinese & Filipino American, I’ve only recently started reclaim my appreciation and joy for my roots. Something that veiled & out in the open racism and supremacist systems kept me from embracing my entire life and now generations of my family are gone as I desperately try to cling on to my family’s history, language and traditions in hopes of passing them down the line to the newest generation of my family. That shame and anger is what brings violent impulses forward, and that is what we see when any human takes another human’s life. I’m sad that I worry about my parents & young child all day long, and not for reasons that make any sense. I’m scared that my family will be in a space where we should feel safe & welcome and that someone who carries violence and hate with them may act on it. I don’t have any actionable things to put out here in this moment except please, if you feel like I do in this moment, I hope you can find joy in any of the small things that you deserve to find joy in. Hug your loved ones. Embrace your cuisines and flavors. Talk about your history. Love your history so your future can love it too. This is the year of the water rabbit. This is a year of hope.

Our dear friend and band mate @blakepfeil is from Colorado Springs. Click the link in our bio to help support those who were at Club Q Saturday night and the lifetime of trauma they face. Blake’s words below: ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Hard to believe I took this a week ago and now it’s despicable out. Just wanted to say thanks to all my fam for reaching out about Club Q— but please do me a favor a donate to the fundraiser at the link in my bio. The patrons from that evening will experience lifelong trauma from this, and they’ll need all the help they can get. I don’t really have much else to say except that I’m proud to be a fag, I’m proud to be from Colorado Springs, and I’m gonna keep fighting for gun control and queer rights until I die. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🌈 #gay #af #guncontrol #coloradosprings #myhome

Today was magical. Today was feminine energy. Today was power. @macabreamericana has not performed in over 2 years and when we got the call from @nelstamp we knew we had to activate. @lacey.madden (bleeding and lactating) and @laurchestra left their babies at home and jumped in a car to show up for these incredible activists who willingly got arrested to stand up for what is right and just. One of the most post powerful images we got to witness was @nelstamp cleaning up protest signs and belongings as people got arrested only to be the last of over 180 people to be arrested. Thank you organizers @cpdaction , @ppact , @workingfamilies for keeping us safe, hydrated, and informed. We could say so much more but we’ll end with this: We won’t go back, we won’t back, our human rights are under attack. #WeWontBackDown #BansOff #wewontgoback #mybodymychoice #reproductiverights #reproductivejustice

Vote. Go vote. Then get back into the streets. It’s clear it’s gonna take a lot more than voting to dismantle SCOTUS in its current form, end the filibuster, protect body autonomy/50 years of reproductive justice, and prevent any further damage from happening to our country. As much as the money-grubbing @dnc might not be doing a lick of work, there are progressives like @aoc , @rashidatlaib , @ayannapresley , @katieporter , etc etc who ARE doing the work and WILL fight for us. Let’s get to work. #vote #reproductivejustice #scotus #roevwade #midterms #electionday #vote2022 📸 @cheriebtay

Finding ways to celebrate is a tough task right now, but we are so grateful to our front woman and cofounder, the legend @lacey.madden . Lacey is a consummate professional, talented artist, spirited activist, and passionate mama, wife, and friend. As Pride season winds to a close, we honor this bisexual beauty for all her love and joy, and we ask that you join us in wishing her a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! #happybirthday #pride #mama #bisexual

Hi. We are here. We are furious. We’ve been quiet for a moment while we navigate new corners of life as new parents, as artists exploring new ventures and opportunities, and as humans who have undergone the collective trauma of the last few years amidst an ongoing pandemic, political upheaval and unconscionable racial and socio-economic injustices and violence. Just popping back here in this moment to remind you to stay angry and to stay active. The recent rulings that have rolled out this week lay out the groundwork to hurt so many in our country. The Supreme Court shouldn’t be taking away rights from anybody. It’s ok to be in pain, to be angry, to feel paralyzed. While the future is still unclear, it’s now more important than ever to vote for candidates who see the future the way you want it to be instead of the nightmarish hellscape we’re currently inhabiting. 📸: @cheriebtay
