On 1st March 2026, at Kochi @comicconindia , we officially launched MAAYAN, a new transmedia project from Kerala to the world, published by Maayan Publications, founded by Rijas Sulaiman, and created by @carmond_infinity .
Actor and musician @anarkalimarikar unveiled the first trailer of MAAYAN to an incredible crowd, marking the beginning of this journey.
At the event, we also presented the first two books from the MAAYAN comic series, Issue #1 and Issue #2, introducing audiences to the world and characters of this expanding universe.
It was amazing to see readers, cosplayers, and fans stop by our stall, flip through the pages, and experience MAAYAN for the first time.
Thank you to everyone who came by, supported the launch, and shared in this moment with us. This is only the beginning.

The Indian comic book scene is undergoing a vibrant revival, and the first two issues of Maayan are proof that historical fantasy can be both culturally rich and pulse-pounding. Set against the backdrop of 15th-century Calicut, this series blends the historical reality of trade and power with the high-stakes energy of wizardry and martial arts.
Issue 1: Poem of Infiltration
The series kicks off with a high-octane introduction titled "Poem of Infiltration." We are introduced to Raman, the sharp-witted apprentice to a royal poet. Raman's life takes a sharp turn toward disaster when he accidentally triggers a catastrophe, forcing him to flee for his life through the shadows of the palace.
The narrative truly finds its stride when Raman’s path crosses with Maayan, a mysterious infiltrator. The dynamic between the panicked apprentice and the lethal, mission-focused warrior provides a great emotional anchor.
The Hook: A frantic palace chase through 15th-century Calicut.
The Aesthetic: Crisp, modern animation-style art that makes the action sequences feel cinematic. comic book panels are so intriguing and stylish that it hooks you instantly. color selection and artwork just feels perfect and goes with the era of that time.
The Cliffhanger: The issue ends on a high note, leaving readers desperate to see if the duo survives the palace guards.
Issue 2: Scars of a Forgotten Past
If Issue 1 was about the "how," Issue 2—"Scars of a Forgotten Past"—dives deep into the "why." Now that Raman and Maari (Maayan) are stuck together, the story shifts gears into a more character-driven mystery.
Raman begins to voice the questions the audience is thinking: Who is Maari? How did he become a Maayan? And what led to the murder of his Master?
World Building: We get a fascinating look at the training and upbringing of a Maayan, including the use of Kalaripayattu (the world's oldest martial art).
