vancouver thrift ranking (accounting for style, price and friend making potential)
2/10 East side flea: depop reseller nightmare. Tries so hard to be like the hippie market in Toronto. also there is a $5 entry fee as if the world wasnât cruel enough. the sellers all look like they ran pro-ana tumblr pages in 2014, which is not a judgement just an observation
8/10 Value Village Boutique 2354 Granville St: I hate to give a boutique its flowers but itâs solid and as fair as prices are going to get this close to downtown. Prime friend making location, and its open til 10pm so its the perfect tipsy Friday night thrift.
6/10 Value Village Boutique 1062 Granville St: architect was on drugs when they thought up the layout, so cramped it feels like everyone is breathing down your neck. Clothes are mediocre but the cramped layout makes its easy to have conversations with strangers that are beyond the âyouâre so prettyâ âno youâre so prettyâ stuff that normally take place in village
10/10 Value Village 6415 Victoria Dr: first time in a long time I have felt real competition at the thrift, everyone there is majorly cool. once I went 2 days in a row and there was NONE of the same stuff, they have a crazzzyy turnaround rate
5/10 Salvation Army 261 E 12th Ave: $20 for a top thats already been worn?? that was given under the pretense of charity??? its perverse, type of gluttony the speak about in the bible. very utilitarian, good if youâre looking for furniture, books, work clothes or records.
4/10 Salvation Army 2714 W Broadway: too many old ppl and children. Mid clothes. Smells like farts.
7/10 The Rag Machine: I generally donât buy stuff from resellers, but the prices here are even better than real thrifts, prefect if you like ugly patterns and bins if you like to dig. super slow turnaround, so you canât go more than once every 2 weeks or its all the same stuff
8/10 SPCA Thrift Store 3606 W Broadway: everyone is dressed like a cartoon character. I swear I saw the entire cast of Ms. Frizzle & the magic school bus. The type of place you go to people watch, buy a record, and Shazam every song they play. Incredibly surreal energy, slightly dimmed by the over priced clothes
