Some images from my third Retrofit zine for @knowlewestmedia and @wecanmakehomes - in this zine we tell the story so far of the Retrofit Street project, and how Andover Road residents have been working together with architects, experts and the kwmc/wcm team to co-design solutions to make their homes better for people and planet.
As a comic artist I'm fascinated by how we tell stories visually, and making a comic felt like the best way to show the different facets of the project and explain the co-design process that makes this approach to retrofit so unique. We wanted to reflect the experiences of the residents taking part, their joys, concerns and learning throughout and I hope everyone involved enjoys seeing themselves on the page. It's very cool to get to use comic storytelling skills in practical, community contexts and I absolutely loved making this zine.

âď¸ MAKE YOUR OWN ZINE âď¸
As part of @diverseartistsnetwork DIASPORA! Festival, join our artist in residence Mereida Fajardo (@m.ereida ) for a free hands-on zine-making workshop at KWMC (South Bristol).
You'll learn about the activist history of zines and make your own zine about a cause you care about. We'll then make copies to swap and share!
No experience needed, just curiosity.
This space is open to all adults (16+), especially those underrepresented in creative spaces: people who identify as working-class, from global majority backgrounds, LGBTQIA+, D/deaf, visually impaired, disabled and/or neurodivergent.

Mereida is working with us on Retrofit Street - a collaboration between 6 households on Andover Road, @wecanmakehomes  and @knowlewestmedia  focused on making existing homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to run. Â
KWMCâs role is creative community engagement, keeping residents at the heart of the work. So weâre working with Mereida to create five zines which bring people along the retrofit journey. This third zine shares more about:Â
đ ď¸ Â Whatâs been happening on Andover Road for the past two years.Â
đ The residents involved in the project.Â
đ How weâre working together to co-design solutions to make their homes warmer, greener and healthier places to live.Â

đ Special thanks to @uniofbath and to the Transforming Homes project funded by Innovate UK. Weâre proud to be part of a national network of people doing retrofit differently called Retrofit Reimagined.

Some more images from my second zine for the Retrofit Street project with @knowlewestmedia and @wecanmakehomes . Through interviews and on-site drawings, this zine spotlights the Neighbourhood Trade Crew who are doing the retrofit work on 5 homes on Andover Road. The trade crew is made up of local tradespeople, Andover Road residents and people underrepresented in construction, and it's been a joy to observe and accompany the crew on site to document how they're building a workplace culture that prioritises wellbeing and healthy practices for the team and residents involved. Thank you to the wonderful and welcoming crew for letting me tag along <3
We printed the zine in fluorescent orange riso ink with @formatte_uk to emulate the hi vis jackets worn by the crew.
Zine 3 is coming soon!
