A very unique group! It’s been a very inspiring days of seminars in La Plana together with Evgenios Voulgaris,Avgerini Gatsi and Ahmad Al Khatib. A thousand thanks to Labyrinth Catalunya and the whole team for making it possible! And above all for giving me this opportunity!! Percussion seminars have always been an integral part of Labyrinth, shaped over the years by outstanding musicians. The seminar with Miriam Encinas @m.e.laffitte next April 2-7, continues that tradition, with a clear focus on musicianship. Percussion is not only about speed and virtuosity. It plays a central role in shaping the groove, influencing timing, articulation, and the overall character of the music. What a percussionist chooses to play—or not to play—has a direct impact on the entire ensemble at any given time. For this reason, playing percussion requires a deep understanding of the musical language: the style, phrasing, and interaction between parts. Listening, awareness, and informed musical decisions are essential. Miriam brings a broad and refined perspective to percussion playing. With experience ranging from medieval to traditional and contemporary music, as well as her activity as a composer, she approaches percussion as a fully integrated musical practice. Having collaborated with her on so many different projects over the years, I can only attest to the depth and clarity of her musicianship! This seminar is strongly recommended not only for percussionists who want to develop their role within an ensemble, but also for musicians of any background who wish to approach percussion, better understand the role of rhythm in a group, and deepen their overall musicality.
