Giddy, belly laughing, pinching myself, my best friend and lover all in one. You’ve made me kinder, you’ve made me come back to myself after years of running, you love me for all that I was and I am and continue to grow into. I love bringing you fresh picked citrus in the morning, it’s reading by the window cuddled with Kevin on a Saturday, it’s slow dancing in the kitchen with no music while our bed time tea is brewing, it’s having difficult conversations knowing we’ll come back to each other, its the light you held me in as a strong and creative woman that I can finally see myself as, it’s hours of driving across state lines to see new places, and me falling in love with old familiar places you grew up in. Dear Shea, happy birthday PUPPPPET 🎉 From party acquaintance to irreplaceable in my heart. Trying not to tear up while I write this but gosh damn… This friendship is true raw, honest, loyal & belly laughs for days on end. You are the brother I never had, you’re family.. It’s words of encouragement, when I’m at my lowest, it’s life chats on the couch till bedtime, it’s white board sessions mapping out our intricate and ambitious selves, its lush meals together and for each other, seamlessly dancing through living in many homes together. it’s absurdly weird faces and it’s the look across a full room knowing exactly what the other is thinking. The way you light up a room with your smile and positivity, it’s infectious and genuine. I’ve never had a friend like you - you show up, you care, deeply, you fight for friendship with patience and kindness. Finding you in the streets of Sayulita was definitely magic, you know! From our shenanigans in Mexico to the California coast line, moving city to city, life is a whole lot sweeter and sillier with you. I love you so much Shea Shea!
My favorite days are days on-site. Sun crisped, music blaring, kubotas speeding, long dusty days building, U-Haul driving, all calls & radio banter, the crew trauma bonding & the homies laughing. The air is thick with tension & excitement trying to get er done. ONE MORE ZIPTIE till gates open! Oh what love & sweat goes into every single one of these projects. The year was 2016.
I spent my days grooming dogs, then hopped on my longboard to skate across the city in a pencil skirt for my fine-dining job. Nights were spent waiting tables and flirting with the chef for free crème brûlée! All of it just to make rent and pay tuition for my shmancy art school in the city.
We owned an ’86 VW Cabriolet that broke down every other week. In winter, we kept a duvet in the front seat to stay warm. Honk the horn and the volume would go up. Blaring @alabama_shakes@thestaves & @rksbandofficial on the stereo!
