It takes trials to build triumph—and our women’s team has lived that truth every step of the way. Every challenge faced and every barrier broken has shaped a group that continues to rise with resilience, purpose, and belief.
From bringing home our nation’s first international medal, to earning a historic place at the World Cup Qualifiers, and becoming one of the fastest-rising teams in the rankings—climbing from 101 to 42 in just a year #Top50—this journey reflects discipline, sacrifice, and unwavering self-belief.
We are proud not only of what they have achieved, but of who they have become. This is not the destination—it is a defining step forward.
The journey continues. 🇸🇸🏀✨
In celebration of Black History Month, we proudly spotlight the remarkable journeys of former Duke student-athletes whose leadership, service, and excellence continue to make a global impact 💙
Today, we recognize @luoldeng9 — former @dukembb standout, President of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, Chairman of the Luol Deng Foundation, and Global Ambassador of the Basketball Africa League!
Luol Deng did not just retire. He rebuilt.
We speak of power as if it belongs only to those in office. It does not.
Power is the ability to lift a flag. To shape perception. To change how a nation is seen.
He gave back to his country. Led the South Sudan Basketball Federation. Invested his own resources. Helped take the South Sudan national basketball team to the world stage.
Africa often underestimates this kind of power.
Delighted he could make it to the launch.
Beyond the Ballot. @luoldeng9@nbaafricaofficial@ntvkenya #beyondtheballot #southsudan
500 wins—congrats @coachmantegna . I was there for the first one and saw what it took to get it. The wins matter, but the lessons from the losses are what define you. Thank you for teaching us consistency, resilience, and how to win in life, not just on the court.
A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.
As always, I had a great time with my brother Masai—sharing our passion for the game, aligning our vision for the future of basketball globally, and discussing the leadership needed to move Africa forward by creating opportunities and building platforms where we truly belong.
Time waits for no one. Ideas are easily thrown around, and effort can be faked—but results are the product of real ideas put into real work. In the end, results speak for themselves.
Basketball is more than a game. In South Sudan, it’s a lifeline — shaping futures, healing trauma, and uniting communities.
Thank you @skynews for highlighting how our youth programs are changing lives, one court at a time.
