Whenever I turned on the TV or logged out of my email inbox, I was hit by terrible fear, and the sickest stories of violence, war, and decadence were served straight into my mind. When I turned it off, things got better, but I couldn’t escape anymore. A paranoid thought crept in that I might become part of the world’s end. But I ignored it at first and carried on with working, buying, dying. But then it all became wilder, and real pandemics, natural disasters, and perverse wars became reality. The voices in my head spiraled out of control, and even the numbness and all the pills could no longer ease it.“
