A beautifully curated MOTOWN music production by James Ngcobo (Director) and Margaret Motsage (Music Director) layered, intentional, and deeply rooted in the sound that continues to shape generations.
As Movement Director, it was such an honour to shape the physical language of a show so rich in music. In a production where movement can’t just decorate the stage but has to live inside the rhythm, carry the groove, and honour the legacy of the sound. Every step had to respect the vocals. Every transition had to breathe with the band. That was the work.
Something created with excellence, passion, and real unity. A team fully committed to the craft and to each other.

I got invited to watch An Ode to Motown at the @joburgtheatre yesterday, a vibrant theatre musical celebrating Black History Month through the timeless sounds and stories of the Motown era. The production was electric - a beautiful tribute to Black excellence, legacy, and the music that shaped generations. Conceptualised and directed by James Ngcobo, with music direction by @margaret_motsage and choreography by @lulumlangeni , the show was brought to life by an incredible lineup of vocalists including @tamaradey , @anelemthethwa_twin , @lerato_mvelase , @mshlengiwepearl , and @lieslpenniken . Anything with James Ngcobo’s name attached is a must-watch for me …his direction is always intentional, layered, and emotionally resonant. Once again, he delivered an unforgettable theatrical experience.
Paying it forward
✨It was an absolute pleasure to be invited to facilitate a dance bootcamp workshop curated by @creamcreativeagency . A truly necessary and intentional space for growth, skill-building, connection, and honest exchange within the dance industry.
Spaces like these remind us of the power of community, collaboration, and pouring back into the next generation of movers. Grateful to contribute and to witness the future in motion.
