This is one of the greatest LA exhibits Iâve seen. Thatâs because itâs filled with Los Angeles history. This is the defunct Johnieâs Coffee Shop located at Wilshire & Fairfax. Inside is an exhibit by artist @garybaseman called OFF THE MENU. Itâs a love letter to Los Angeles restaurant culture.
Each piece of art is on the actual menus of LA restaurants, created by Baseman while dining. He calls these âaction drawingsâ: a discipline that demands full engagement with the food, the moment, and his fellow diners, with each piece completed before the meal ends. The result is a body of work that transforms the everyday ritual of eating together into creative engagement.
EXHIBITION HOURS: Thursday through Sunday, Noonâ7pm (Subject to change). Runs through Sunday, June 14, 2026.
Perhaps weâre getting one step closer to Johnieâs opening up as a coffee shop once again. Thank you Gary for allowing us to take a trip back inside! What a treat for us Angelenoâs! I hadnât been inside since it closed way back in 2000

The Making of our DREAM DRESS for the LACMA Gala!
A rag tag team of inspired artists!
@lulasphinx & I knew we needed @alionakononova beautiful vision to mash up with our dreams to make something whimsical, elegant, playful, sexy and silly to create magic to celebrate @lacma new home!
We knew MIDNIGHT CATS had to play a role in our gown and Lulaâs obsession with the moon completed and topped our DREAM DRESS!

We introduced our new collaborative dress by @alionakononova@lulasphinx and myself titled MIDNIGHT CATS!đđââŹđŤđââŹ
Celebrating the new @davidgeffen galleries at @lacma , we made sure we brought whimsy & fun, by creating this new wearable art piece to share with LACMA, as they showcase their diverse permanent collection in their new serpentine building designed by Swiss architect, Peter Zumthor.
We brought our Midnight Cats, Beverly & Fairfax zooming and clinging onto this Cayenne color silk dress, while the Moon of our Dreams glows brightly perched on the top of my muse, Lula.
I even found time to do a Dining & Drawing piece of art during the gala meal of this dress!
So grateful to Aliona and her team to complete the dress in record time and @suppliesrusonline
for bringing our glowing moon to life!
And thank you to @sarasina21 and Mike of the @the_eden8_foundation and your âMighty Tailsâ team for inviting us and your generosity!

A Spooky Special Project! @GaryBaseman commissioned this bespoke dress for @LulaSphinx âs birthday. Inspired by 1920âs Halloween costumes, it features 15 hand-painted appliquĂŠs. This was one of my most challenging but fun projects. The dress is French-seamed, fully lined, and yes - there are pockets! Truly a one-of-kind. More images coming soon đââŹđđ
A couple light filled spaces in Carmelâ¨The atrium dining area is located at @sardinefactory . Reminiscent of Tavern on the Green in Central Park(one of my favs).
In the past, design seemed to incorporate more creativity, light, playfulness, and color. Sun affects our mood. Theyâre knocking down craftwork/vision for thoughtless grey boxes to put us in while scrolling our life away from each otherâŚ
