we woke up with a bit of snow one morning in hakone.
the previous night i spent at a makeshift cafe with a couple old guys nextdoor to our place. one was the owner and the other was his friend. it’s only open a handful of hours a week, so i’m pretty sure he just converted the front of his house to a cafe to have his friends over. i tried my best to speak japanese but the friend spoke a bit of broken english, so all convo funneled through him.
we all listened to some jazz together while we sipped on a 6pm coffee. they recommended that i listen to Sadao Watanabe, so i bought a couple of his records and brought them back home with me. that’s what’s playing behind these photos
i try to take pictures of random people living their lives when i can. oftentimes i wish i get closer on these frames, but what can ya do. i don’t want to bother them
recently got back from my third trip to japan in the past few years. i spent some time in the smaller seaside towns this trip, which was really cool. the fisherman seem to be the backbone of these places
i feel like i’ve built up a pretty solid body of work over my time in japan, but who knows… i still need to scan the rolls from last year. one of these days i’ll share all of that
