And thanks to @marcmontez for helping me record that take in his home! I wrote that song (along with the Beauty) in 2015 just after highschool and I've been holding out for years to find the right female vocalist to sing it, and I'm so stoked because Hailee knocked it out of the park!! Thank you ♥️
This is a very personal album, and while I feel like I need to share it in order to move on, I've been reluctant to. I recorded all the instruments on each song in a small, cluttered and filthy practice room in Escondido, CA while living in my van. Following a bizarre love affair that went horribly wrong, I was heartbroken and humiliated and lost, completely lost. I happened to have a week off from work so I spent 10-12 hours a day for a week alone in this little room made of plywood, the carpet stained with years of spilled beer and cigarette burns. I worked and worked and worked and finally finished the album and then... had a nervous breakdown 🤓 (I'm much better now tho.) I am very grateful that I had a space and the time and the instruments to put it all together and to pour my sorrow into something that might make someone happy for a moment. Please give it a listen! You won't regret it!

This song is about the frustrations of yearning for someone. For me, the "girl in red" is a shape shifting shadow of desire, it could be anyone. The girl in red is a delusional image of someone through the rose tinted glasses. The real person is lost and obscured by a mind that is lost in a desperate fantasy that falters between love and lust.

I worked on this song over a long period of time. I started writing it during my brief but impactful time in Berlin, and finished up a few lines after getting back to California. It began as a love song about the girl I was dating at the time, the first person I'd been with in years. I was elated that I had broken the spell of lonesomeness. But I quickly realized that we were very wrong for each other, and I began to distance myself. The song then came to incorporate the feeling of heartache. While the circumstance which sparked the song is personal, and comes from a much deeper place within myself than that particular situation, I feel the song captures both the beauty and the suffering of love. No one can force love to blossom within their own hearts or the hearts of others, it simply happens. All the same, falling out of love simply happens, and then one wonders if it was love at all...

It's been about a year since I recorded my latest album, Loveloss. Life's been chaotic for some time, but now I'm finally ready to release it. Loveloss is a very personal album exploring all the shades of the dark side of love. I will go into greater detail in later posts.
