Ahoy! Big thanks to @luke_stratton and the @limithron crew for hosting me and my mates for raucous game of @pirateborg
watching this company explode at @gary.con this year with such an impressive booth and game floor set up makes my heart explode. I have been fortunate to play this game several times, run by Luke and it is always a highlight of any convention that we are at together. This game is a blast. I highly recommend folks pick up this rules light dark, and yet silly fantasy pirate game. Drink up me Hearties Yoho!
I got to run some Pirate Borg for some new buddies of mine! What a great group of players. Vince Vaughn, @joemanganiello@tommorello , Paul Wight (Big Show), D. B. Weiss, Joel Wiseman, Dan Hernandez, and of course @tylerjstratton
What an amazing month! My Kickstarter for my 2nd book Pirate Borg book has raised $600k and has over 5,000 backers, and I’m so proud of the community we’ve built. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I am retiring from touring.
Today is the start of The Smashing Pumpkins tour with Green Day, but it is my last day on tour, and my last day as a touring lighting director. Moving forward, I will be focusing more on lighting design, programming, but mostly my other company, Limithron.
I have loved this job with all of my heart. Lighting is part of my DNA, and some of the most precious moments of life have occurred behind a lighting console. I met my wife and most of my best friends on tour. There is nothing in the world like piloting a huge, well programmed light rig in a dark room with an amazing band at the peak of a jam.
But life is short, and to put it in sailing terms, when the winds change you have to adjust your sails. Limithron and Pirate Borg have changed my life: I employ a team of three, and tomorrow I head to Gen Con where we are running almost 100 events at a convention of over 70,000 people. Pirate Borg was in the top ten selling TTRPGs in the country the last year, and this September we are launching our 2nd book on Kickstarter. Those who know me from touring post-pandemic know that I spend all my down time drawing and working on my next book, and during this last tour in Europe, when I found myself wishing I was at home with Bea and drawing pirates instead of lighting one of the most important bands of my youth and exploring European cities, I knew it was time for a change. A big change.
I’m not leaving lighting, and in fact I hope that this will transform into some even more exciting opportunities. I’ll be accepting a few design and programming clients as my schedule allows. If you know of a cool band or project that might benefit from my wild, musical, chaotic lighting wizardy, please reach out to luke AT thelightside DOT net.
Today the @smashingpumpkins crew hoodies that I designed and illustrated have arrived! If you’re into meta stuff, check this out: the moth and towers are a nod to my lighting rig design for the tour. Swipe for more images. #nerdcore
