dream 010: luke pickering on nightmares, being held and anti-nostalgia
As a kid, you want to try everything. Not knowing the consequences until it’s too late, raising your arms to ask for safety or attention.
Back in February, I had a call with photographer Luke Pickering. I asked him about a new series of images he’d been developing, exploring what it means to be held and processing the present when there seems to be little of a future.
Then, last Friday, I experienced becoming gridlocked by strangers in a cafe as I sat trying to finish this piece. After having a PTSD flare up that morning, I felt stuck, wriggling, like a ladybird that had been flipped onto its back. I realise now, it was just what I’d needed.
