The last time I saw my father was the day of the solar eclipse. I was getting my Czech passport renewed and he had come down to visit me and talk to the consulate. Afterwards, he wanted to get a ‘real’ New York bagel and we stopped in a little spot on the upper east side. Afterwards, we made our way over to the north 5th st park in Greenpoint and marveled at the partial eclipse. He flew his drone around, and we went back to my apartment to swap stories and solutions to the things we were 3D printing. He excitedly told me about the adventures he had planned in Prague, and I made soft plans to visit in Boston later in the spring. The next morning he dropped me off at work before heading home. our goodbye was a brief ‘I’ll see you soon’ kind of fairwell. His visit felt small at the time, but It wasn’t until now that I learned that the memory of his trip would be with me forever.
