Album released✨
Delighted to present my first original work with the rubab, out today.
7 compositions and improvisations, followed by a folk song, come together as 'Echoes in the Weave'; a visual reference to the delicate art of weaving, it evokes the craft in the very fabric of tradition, a myriad of knots, patterns and colours, ever-changing yet ever-linked.
With a huge thanks to the dear friends who played along : @ludovic.ott@shahab.eghbali@perkusyonistsakir Subhajit Brahmachari & Faisal Salimi, who all contribute wonderful colours to these compositions.
Many thanks as well to @lachlanrdale with his fine taste for rubab and his label @worldswithinworldsrecords for the precious efforts leading to this album. They have some really special recordings of rubab among a rich palette of sounds, if you haven't yet you will enjoy to visit.
I'm grateful to many more, but specifically to Ustad Daud Khan Sadozai for the wealth of knowledge and benevolence along the years, the endless inspiration behind the music, which I owe to @musiclabyrinth for opening the doors to this magical world over a decade ago.
Link in bio to listen.
I hope you enjoy!

Sareban’s debut single Dar Aghoosh-e Mawj is out now.
Set in the mood of raag Saraswati - an austere, slightly unsettling mode associated with South Indian music - the piece explores a tonal space rarely heard on the rabab. Its scale also closely mirrors a widely used mode from the Makran region of southern Baluchestan, traditionally associated with healing and ritual practices built around repetition and trance. In this context, the Rajasthani jaw harp (morchang) assumes the role of a drone-lute, anchoring the rabab’s unfolding improvisation in a steady, breathing pulse.
The Swiss born Afghan Rabab player has spent a decade studying under Ustad Daud Khan. His upcoming album works from deep within the Afghan tradition while quietly extending its possibilities through original composition.
Breathtaking music from Baluchistan.🌷🎶 Memories from the memorable performance of Ostad Jalal Jigar @jlljgr , Faroogh Rahmani @faroogh_rahmani and Mohammad Delnavaz @delnavaz_m6388 at @aler.muzik in Istanbul. @ludovic.ott and myself were honoured to join them for a few pieces at the end of the concert, keepsake of a beautiful weekend of music and friendship.
Over the years I have found myself increasingly captivated by Balochi music in its numerous forms and colours - the intoxicating, trance-leading guati healing music, the complex zahirigs and the epics they bring to life, the beautiful songs of this people whose homeland is divided between three countries. It also nurtures a specific, highly original rubab style of which Faroogh is an outstanding exponent. A great pleasure to hear him, along with Ostad Jalal, master of the drone-lute tanburag and mellifluous singer, and Mohammad Delnavaz grooving on the dholak.
